@GatoradeMeBitch

Sorry to sound ignorant, but I am on this - Jada wasn't bald. She had a shadow all over her head, it just looked shaved. Is that a thing with alopecia, that maybe it only grows a tiny amount? My only frame of reference is Gail Porter and she is definitely bald.
I would assume becaus her hair is patch she chose to remove it rather than have bald spots
Swayingpalmtrees · 28/03/2022 08:31

Thatsplentyjack Why do you strongly disagree? We all have sensitivities and things that upset us, do we all walk around punching people in the face that offend us? What kind of world would it be if we were all behaving like Will Smith? There is never justification for violence.

gazprom · 28/03/2022 08:31

we need to remember that oscars ceremonies have become 'roasts' over the years. A clearly defined and expected situation where a clebrity will be the target of insults and mockery, along with fellow attendees. Everybody knows this. It's got a little of the flavour of court jestering, and takes into account that everyone there has high social capitol.

So it's a defined space where people get mocked and are supposed to take it. Outside of the ceremony, one wouldn't expect them to take it.

I think Chris Rock is a knob for his trans stance but here, compared with Gervais, his roasting is tame

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/03/2022 08:32

the women's reactions when he hit someone on that other twitter say it all.
digusting

Swayingpalmtrees · 28/03/2022 08:32

Chris sunk too low with a joke that was too personal to get attention, Will smith lowered the bar further by being violent and attacking him.

Neither will escape this unscathed.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/03/2022 08:33

will smith and his wife are the butt of jokes every year

agree, i wonder what would happen if ricky gervais had said that?

toomanytwinkies · 28/03/2022 08:33

Absolute toxic masculinity. Male violence will never go away if these reasonings continue to be embedded in male culture.

Will Smith punches Chris Rock on stage at the Oscars.
MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/03/2022 08:33

tbh Jada just looks fed up at the joke imo

Because sometimes I think there is justification for violence.
jungledoc · 28/03/2022 08:35

Because sometimes I think there is justification for violence.

By that logic how do you retaliate to someone hitting you?

babywalker56 · 28/03/2022 08:35

I don’t condone violence but I can see why he punched him.

Jada and Will didn’t make the last Oscar awards and Chris Rock was running his mouth making jokes about them then. Now this time round he’s making inappropriate jokes about Jada’s hair when she just stated in an interview that she has alopecia and she constantly feels low about it. Very bad taste to then make a ‘joke’ about it. I saw Will laughing at first but then I’m guessing he saw his wife wasn’t happy and had an outburst. He still won the Oscar which is great for him anyway🤷‍♀️

What got me is Chris’ reaction. I guess you can call it professional but I’m sure he would have been pissed backstage!

Maireas · 28/03/2022 08:36

@Hotpinkangel19

Good for him. Chris Rock was an arsehole.
Maybe. But at least he didn't hit back.
AuntieJoyce · 28/03/2022 08:36

Exactly @gazprom

WS has laughed then felt the need to over compensate

Swayingpalmtrees · 28/03/2022 08:36

The oscars needs to be scrapped, it is long past its due date, an old 80s idea - embarrassingly old school with full of misogyny, the ridiculous dresses and teetering, crappy jokes and back slapping and pointless awards. It was in poor taste anyway given what is happening in Ukraine.

Hopefully they will wind up the whole charade now and try something fresher. The only blessing will be that young people don't care or watch it anyway.

custardbear · 28/03/2022 08:37

Whilst I'm not a fan of violence, what annoys me is that Jada PS has been open about her condition, so many people hide these things and ignore it, she's opened up. This should be applauded, not taken the piss out of
I'm not a Will Smith fan but Chris Rock is an arsehole and tried to get a cheap joke out of someone's illness and could damage people coming out about such health or appearance issues

What if you were being attacked? What if a grown man was attacking a child, you wouldn’t hit and kick and push him off? Or would you call 999 and wait 20 minutes by which time it’s too late?

There is a legal acceptable level of violence for a reason.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/03/2022 08:37

Chris Rock threatened to hit back later when he rewatched it and realised it was not a joke!

AngelicaSchuylerAndHerSisters · 28/03/2022 08:38

@Febrier can you link to that?

Swayingpalmtrees · 28/03/2022 08:38

Putin would agree with you plenty You are thankfully a minority.

Maireas · 28/03/2022 08:39

@MrsLargeEmbodied

Chris Rock threatened to hit back later when he rewatched it and realised it was not a joke!

Good grief - imagine that, descending into a first fight, maybe rolling on the floor?

Moaningturtle · 28/03/2022 08:40

@Swayingpalmtrees do you also think the defensive violence from the Ukrainians is unacceptable?

Swayingpalmtrees · 28/03/2022 08:40

What if you were being attacked? What if a grown man was attacking a child, you wouldn’t hit and kick and push him off? Or would you call 999 and wait 20 minutes by which time it’s too late?

That is called self defence.

We can not apply it to this situation because Will was not being physically attacked nor a child of his.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 28/03/2022 08:41

and then Chris Rock called out for Jaden!

luckily his entourage stopped him

gazprom · 28/03/2022 08:41

arggh - you people, they are roasts - it is a tradition - like a court jester taking the King/Queen down a peg or two. It is expected, traditional and these people all get it in the neck and they are people of the highest social standing, not some random person.

There;s a whole series on Comedy Central (Comedy Central Roasts) that have far far harsher mocking on them.

Swayingpalmtrees · 28/03/2022 08:43

I will say again moaning Ukrainians are entitled to self defence.
Putin is the aggressor.
You could argue that Chris could have defended himself by pushing Will away/other action but Will can not claim self defence, when he walks onto a stage and punches someone!
He had other options to deal with his feelings, and choose the violent option. He should now be charged by the police for assault. It is not acceptable in a civilised society to lash out at someone for a joke, in poor taste or not.
