What the bloody hell is biting me?! Pic included

I've just had a much-needed nap on the sofa and woke up scratching my hand and face. I've just looked and have lots of small bites on both the back of my left hand and all around my jawline.

I've been truly munched - but what insect would do this?! I can't use antihistamines as I'm 18 weeks pregnant and have to be careful with creams but I'll slap some Savlon on them.

Evil critters.

Is the soga new to your house?

GiantHaystacks2021 · 27/03/2022 16:01

Sofa

Squiff70 · 27/03/2022 16:02

Nope, had the sofa for a few years. Blanket and cushion covers were all washed about 10 days ago.

Valhalla17 · 27/03/2022 16:08

Scabies?

LittleSnakes · 27/03/2022 16:08

My hear rash looks a bit like that sometimes. Is it def bites?

amylou8 · 27/03/2022 16:11

Looks like a heat rash

WeAreTheHeroes · 27/03/2022 16:12

Looks like an allergic reaction rash rather than bites to me. Probably to do with the perfume in your detergent.

hedgehoglurker · 27/03/2022 16:23

I'd also think a rash rather than bites. Is some hydrocortisone cream or ointment ok when pregnant? It can be bought off the shelf or over the counter.

Squiff70 · 27/03/2022 16:48

We don't have any pets in the house. We have two rabbits but they're in a purpose-built shed outside.

I don't think it's a rash. If you look carefully at the photo you may see that one or two of the boxes have a dot in the middle which I suspect is a tiny puncture wound.

Bites, not boxes!

OP posts:
PlinkPlankPlunk · 27/03/2022 16:50

So you haven’t scratched it (to make those little punctures)? It does look like flea bites, which is quite odd if you have no pets

Rovinonmars · 27/03/2022 16:59

There is a type of eczema called dyshidrotic eczema that causes little bumps, mainly on hands and feet. They itch like mad and are worse while you sleep. There's a really good cream called eumovate that helped clear mine up.

Not sure if this is what you have, but the bumps and the itchiness reminded me a lot of my flare up last year.

Squiff70 · 28/03/2022 22:44

And so it continues. I now have the bites on my other hand and on my neck. DP has some on his legs and whilst getting our daughter ready for bed tonight, we noticed she has one on her face. So they're definitely bites and not eczema etc.

Two things happened the other day... firstly, we had a delivery of hay for our two rabbits. It's possible the hay contained some bitey little insects as the bags were momentarily in the house before being moved to the bunny shed.

Secondly, a friend came round. She has a dog, and although the dog wasn't with her at the time, she had just taken him for a walk and he may have picked up some insects on their walk and my friend inadvertently brought them into our home.

Anyway, the exact place they came from doesn't matter too much. Its more concerning what they are and how we get rid of them.

Are there any bites in the web spaces between your fingers? I suspect it might be scabies.

Readyforspring · 28/03/2022 22:51

If. Not a rash, Im going with the hay.
My mum had similar years ago.

Readyforspring · 28/03/2022 22:52

Oh and she had the house fumigated

StrawberryPot · 28/03/2022 22:55

Hay mites are a thing apparently...

Squiff70 · 28/03/2022 22:55

A 10 second Google search tells me it's nothing like scabies so I'm not sure how you reached that conclusion.

My money is on the hay too. We both have daily contact with the hay when we regularly give handfuls of it to the bunnies.

Yespresh · 28/03/2022 22:57

Try some 99% aloe vera gel.

Perhaps because it’s not on my hand and I can’t examine it through a picture, hence why I asked if it was between your fingers as well HmmConfused

But if you’re so sure of what it is or isn’t, why have you asked here Smile

BreadmanAndCake · 28/03/2022 23:05

I suffer from dishydrotic eczema on my hands and it looks similar to that when it flares up but is more between my fingers and on my palms.

TyrannosaurusFlex · 28/03/2022 23:07

Also ‘suspect’ and ‘might’ are words indicating speculation, so I didn’t reach any ‘conclusion’ Confused

Backtothefutureagain · 28/03/2022 23:09

I thought it looked like scabies too.

Summerfun54321 · 28/03/2022 23:32

Scabies.
