What the bloody hell is biting me?! Pic included

I've just had a much-needed nap on the sofa and woke up scratching my hand and face. I've just looked and have lots of small bites on both the back of my left hand and all around my jawline.

I've been truly munched - but what insect would do this?! I can't use antihistamines as I'm 18 weeks pregnant and have to be careful with creams but I'll slap some Savlon on them.

Evil critters.

Scabies

IroningBoardz · 28/03/2022 23:42

It’s scabies.

Quackpot · 28/03/2022 23:42

My money's on fleas from the hay. Treat the rabbits and the house

Doesn't look like flea bites to me, they are usually in a quite distinct line, as in one bite, then hops to another and another, quite linear in my experience. They don't usually have any bleeding or obvious puncture marks either.

Have to been in the garden at all?

5zeds · 29/03/2022 00:06

Red mites (chickens?)

Squiff70 · 29/03/2022 00:11

But if you’re so sure of what it is or isn’t, why have you asked here?

Eh? I don't know what it is or isn't, hence my post. Did you read the title? It's still a mystery.

Since several people have mentioned scabies we've been doing some research. Neither of us think it's scabies but, of course, we could be wrong. The bites on my left hand (pictured in the OP from yesterday) have healed and almost faded to nothing. They are no longer itchy. I think if it was scabies that wouldn't be the case from what we've read.

DP jas two or three bites on his leg but they are spread out whereas mine are clustered together. When she went to bed, DD had a single bite mark on her cheek. I'll check her over properly first thing in the morning.

We will of course boil wash all our bedding and stuff tomorrow and I'll check the bunnies carefully too. I haven't seen either of them scratching or doing anything concerning but having a toddler I'm not with the rabbits for long periods of time.

We'll visit a pharmacy tomorrow for advice and will try and get a GP appointment if all else fails.

Looks 3xactly like rash on my hands which Dr said was dermatitis, it gets worse when in bed and when scratched looks exactly like that. Hydrocortisone cream over the counter or stronger euro ate from GP helps. It can be so itchy you want 5o bite your skin off but few hour later virtually gone🙄

Squiff70 · 29/03/2022 00:14

We haven't been in the garden BUT have been on a farm in the last three days where there were chickens strutting about. We didn't come into direct contact with them but were probably 8-10ft away at one point.

@Rovinonmars

There is a type of eczema called dyshidrotic eczema that causes little bumps, mainly on hands and feet. They itch like mad and are worse while you sleep. There's a really good cream called eumovate that helped clear mine up.

Not sure if this is what you have, but the bumps and the itchiness reminded me a lot of my flare up last year.

This. Ive had that rash OP a few times. Its exactly what this poster says

You know what OP I reckon a vet might be the best bet if the GP has no idea. I bet it’s something from the hay but dunnonif tixks or fleas or red mites or what.

There is a powder called something like diamatious earth that helps kill pests, might be worth a try. But I reckon a vet would be the expert as they’ll have caught all sorts over their career

PandemicAtTheDisco · 29/03/2022 00:20

I had a brief flea infestation after some hot weather. We assumed they'd hatched from eggs laid by fleas on the previous house owner pets from years before.

Squiff70 · 29/03/2022 00:21

Surely if it was eczema, my partner and daughter wouldn't have very similar looking marks on their skin within 24 hours of me starting with it? I'm no dermatologist (obviously) so what do I know?

What I SHOULD have said from the outset that there's a darker patch of marks on the back on my hand too. It's just a scan from a very minor scrape I had several days ago. It has only just occurred to me that since the pics on MN are only very small, it may look to others like those tiny scabs are the bites I'm referring to. Sorry about that!

Could you have any birds nesting in the eaves of your house? It's nesting season and bird mites can cause itchy bites.

I don't think so but haven't been in the loft for ages so who knows? We had a new roof five years ago so it's unlikely, but possible.

That is not scabies.

I think you should see a doctor though, if you all have it.
