It's Sunday. I'm bored! Do you have any celebrity friends as in close enough to have them on Watsapp etc. Come on give us a clue, maybe some MNers will even be brave enough to tell us names!

OP posts:

@HowIsItMarchAlready

I wonder if Stephen Fry is as good company IRL as he seems on TV
He seems like a huge, up-himself bore to me.
SuperSocks · 28/03/2022 18:11

@Fuzzyhippo

I don't have any friends, let alone being friends with a celebrity. But I did meet the guy who draws the terrible pet art on Facebook
Ooo, what's he like? I love those pictures!!
Bard6817 · 28/03/2022 18:12

Haha. funny post.

I know nearly nobody directly. But, I knew an east enders actor from the 90’s well enough to be invited to his stag do and wedding, but was ill and didn’t go to either.

However second hand contact, ie not friends just been in their company, a myriad of bands, uk actors (due to Rada and the east enders actor i mentioned above) ranging from Sean Bean (played football with him) to the Wash n go advert guy (got in a fight with him at my place) due to inappropriate behaviour in my bedroom. An ex of mine snogged Prince Harry before he got tied down, in a bar near Yarn.

Most famous person indiectly, is that i have a family home in another country and pay someone to live there, and he’s on nickname terms, had dinner and nights in and out, with George Clooney (my actual neighbor there, for about 2 months of the year) has him on whatsapp, and yet, i’ve never even seen him once. If i hadn’t seen the selfies, or a facetime once, i would have not believed him. From all accounts a great guy. Pisses me off.

A Dad at school is a BBC sports/news reader (more regional than national) ....bit of a nob really, very full of himself.

BowerOfBramble · 28/03/2022 18:15

I know a few journalists but that doesn't count.

@Jue01 I'm sorry for your loss.

I'm glad Heath Ledger was as nice as he seemed, he always felt so different to other actors and radiated energy and warmth, was gutted when he died.

Namechangeagain2021 · 28/03/2022 18:16

@HowIsItMarchAlready one of my friends was a registrar and conducted Stephen Fry's wedding. She said he was very nice.

MMBaranova · 28/03/2022 18:16

My father shares a hobby with a famous drummer. Said drummer seems to like that my dad is not in any way star struck. Dad doesn't seem to realise drummer is at all famous.

WiddlinDiddling · 28/03/2022 18:18

@DameHelena

If someone is friends with a person, they're going to say they're lovely, who on earth is friends with someone they don't like! TBF the thread is 'do you know...' not 'are they lovely?'
Oh ok.

Yes.

Does it then matter who they are? If folk aren't interested in what they're like what is the point of the thread?

Peter Gabriel is a friend (via his wife), DH is/was also a musician, he is friends with PG.

Midge Ure friendly, have done each other favours over time.

Used to be friends with Paula Yates, met Michael Hutchence via her and saints forgive me, but he wasn't just good looking, he was magnetic.

Me and DH were friends with Bob Geldof, I was team Paula when they split, DH stayed friends with Bob. Everything you think you know about BG & PY split? It was like that, but worse. DH & BG still occasionally stay in touch.

Tony Wilson was unforgettable and unintentionally hilarious.

My biggest claim to fame is that I was back stage during Nirvana's set at Reading in 1992.

My biggest celebrity crush is probably Nick Cave, I worked with him a few times. He's masculine/not afraid to show his feelings. Genuinely a kind man.

I worked in the entertainment industry for years, so I knew loads who were famous in the 80s & 90s. DH was a session musician, he played on some big albums.

We moved out of London for good in the late 90s to raise our family.

ExMachinaDeus · 28/03/2022 18:21

A friend of mine knows Damon from Brookside (Simon O’Brien) and says he’s not as friendly as you see him on TV. Quite aloof.

Probably because of this kind of thread ...

FangsForTheMemory · 28/03/2022 18:21

yes I do, thanks for asking

NewBootsAndRanty · 28/03/2022 18:23

James Brown, back in the day.

DameHelena · 28/03/2022 18:23

WiddlinDiddling, who said people aren't interested in what they're like?
People obviously (going by this thread) want to know what they're like, lovely, horrible or in between.

Granted, the OP does then say 'friends', but we all know about frenemies Grin. And plenty of people on here seem happy to talk about slebs they know who they don't seem to think are nice/friends.

DameHelena · 28/03/2022 18:24

Can well believe it. Couldn't take my eyes off him watching the recent doc.

Londoncallingme · 28/03/2022 18:26

Kids at london independent schools - so quite a few, only v friendly with 1.

I've met quite a few famous people, megastar famous, like Bowie. But l met Nick Cave at Glastonbury a few years ago, and I was utterly starstruck. I literally couldn't speak. He was very kind to this gibbering idiot. Charismatic as hell, as well.

Elizabethmac · 28/03/2022 18:28

My husband made the Royal wedding cake for Prince Charles and Lady Diana.

AndForMyNextNameChange · 28/03/2022 18:33

Bob Geldof definitely has a presence too, when he chooses to he commands a room with little effort. Undoubtedly, if he likes something, or someone, he does so with passion.

As I was friendly with Paula Yates I knew some of the things that were going on long before that Big Breakfast interview. Michael Hutchence was IMO the catalyst, but not the cause, of the split in the Geldof/Yates marriage.

GorgeousPizza · 28/03/2022 18:34

@ LetsGoCrazyPurpleBanana we must have gone to the same school 😬

AbitSceptical · 28/03/2022 18:34

Charlotte Eaton - Terri Dyke in Benidorm - is a friend

Saira Khan of the Apprentice is my best friend's SIL so I've met her a couple of times.
Less recent contacts:
My aunt dated John Cleese, Mervin King (later governor of the bank of England) and Jack Straw
My dad was at school with Michael Palin
I taught Quentin Tarantino Horse riding.

Isn't he? He has a stage presence, sometimes on film he comes across as surly, I think. In reality he is anything but.
GorgeousPizza · 28/03/2022 18:35

Quite a few, mostly because of where I went to school and grew up. Also from holidays to the same place, mostly sportsmen and a few british actors/tv personalities.

crispmidnightpeace · 28/03/2022 18:36

I don't but I wouldn't give the name. This will be tomorrow's obligatory mumsnet theft for the Daily Mail and they will make an article of it 'woman claims to be Robbie Williams's friend!' and he'll be calling up telling his mate off for using him for internet attention.

Alleycat1 · 28/03/2022 18:36

My lovely step-daughter is an actress. Have met quite a few celebrities through her. All very pleasant.
