  1. None of your business
  2. There is no legal obligation to stay at home
  3. He has a job to do - he needs to do it
  4. Covid is only a minor illness,so no reason not to go to work
  5. The population really needs to stop getting hysterical about this now - there is absolutely no need.

It would be possible I am sure, as in reading a lot of stuff about Putin, and his state of mind, and what lots of other Military people in the know have thought about Putin, and what he is capable of doing, and the fact that death and destruction, dont seem to mean a thing to him, or the war crimes that he is committing., He seems very isolated, and living in his own world., which means he could do anything monstrous at any time.

Hbh17 · 24/03/2022 16:33

Apologies - wrong thread & don't know how to delete!

ThenAgainMaybeIWont · 24/03/2022 16:33

@ArtVandalay he really wouldn't put the fear of god into me Grin He's a 23 year old young lad

Christ, why do MN allow all this nonsense to remain? Loons running free

Sunnierdays · 24/03/2022 16:34

I was really worried when Putin put his nuclear alert up but I have been concentrating more on the awful situation the people of Ukraine 🇺🇦 are suffering !! There was an interesting programme on channel 4 last Sunday (what if Putin goes nuclear ) . It’s well explained !!

LBFseBrom · 24/03/2022 16:39

I'm not worried because there is no point in worrying about something like that in advance, especially as it may never happen. We live in the here and now, being anxious robs us of the enjoyment of today. I'm anxious enough without adding a possible nuclear war to the list :-), I did enough stressing about that when I was a youngster and I'm still here.

WeDontShutUpAboutBruno · 24/03/2022 16:40

I'm not worried.

Me sitting panicking about the end of days wouldn't stop the end of days happening, it just means my last few days are crap.

Unless I can do anything practical to help my situation I don't worry.

The only practical thing I can do at the moment to help anything is donating to Ukraine to help those who are suffering right now.

ArtVandalay · 24/03/2022 16:40

ThenAgainMaybeIWont exactly. This is why, for the most part, I smile and nod.

Tuba437 · 24/03/2022 16:46

I also think we need to think about the chain of escalation. Not a chance he'd just launch nukes out of the blue. Likely to have chemical weapons, tactical nuke, nato intervention possibly after tactical nuke, attack on a nato country, tactical nuke on a nato Eastern European country and then possible large scale nukes following a nato attack on moscow. That's alot of levels of escalation before we get to that sort of level of warfare.

I'm hopeful a solution can be found soon but not worried about an imminent nuclear threat. I honestly believe if nato got involved all sides would get to the negotiating table fairly quickly (still incredibly unlikely we will get involved anytime soon)

MasterGland · 24/03/2022 16:46

I think it helps to be pragmatic about these things, rather than panicky. There were extensive war games carried out after Russia annexed Crimea. Some of the outcomes of those war games are available to read in articles online.

A tactical nuclear weapon launch at a major city, with resulting loss of electricity supply is possible. This can be prepared for, and the Swedes have encouraged their population to do so for the past few years.

Global thermonuclear war is pointless to worry about.

InsideTheNet · 24/03/2022 16:47

Nope - but maybe that's because I have just been diagnosed with cancer so my perspective is somewhat different (although I still wouldn't have been worried even before the cancer diagnosis).

PaperTyger · 24/03/2022 16:47

I swing.

Since Putin's madness we are closer to a nuclear fall out since the 80s?

But one has to remember, let's say Putin is a cut off lonely old Man whose family despise him and he want's to lash out at everyone over this failing war....

What about everyone else around him! All those generals with mistresses and families and grandchildren... they don't want our nuke's aiming at them either!

PaperTyger · 24/03/2022 16:48

Tbh I'd feel far more concerned if there was ideology involved or a religious elements that people were willing to die for.

DazzlingDarrenDring · 24/03/2022 16:48

Nope

Had a wobble about three weeks ago but stopped watching the news and felt better immediately.

I would urge anyone who is suffering anxiety or intrusive thoughts about ' Nuclear War' to try the following things...

  1. Limit your news intake. In this 24/7 news cycle world, even the most reputable sources are going for the most sensational view point to ensure viewing or website clicks , hence the ' Nuclear' stuff . Watch Newsround with your kids, or listen to a short radio bulletin once a day.
  1. Limit your social media activity..including this website! avoid ' War' topics. Avoid doom scrolling. There's always a paid ' expert' ready to peddle a doomsday scenario for an appearance fee, or for a raised profile.
  1. Search out good news websites, and get your internet hit from that. Search YouTube for old kids TV programmes you used to watch.
  1. Read a comforting book. Put Stephen King or Val McDermaid down and pick up ' Wind in the Willows ' or ' Huckleberry Finn ' .
  1. Watch boxsets and films that are happy and life affirming. Avoid drama and ' real crime'.
  1. Same as above with podcasts. Try the old desert island discs from the BBC archives.
  1. Use any and all Wellbeing resources in your workplace.
  1. Look around you. Is anyone else panicking? has anyone else stopped planning for the future? of course they haven't.
  1. Think of all the other things that have been ' the end of the world' that you now probably don't think about - Terrorist Attacks, ISIS, Covid-19, Climate Change.
  1. Context. We are not in this war. We are not going to be. We have been in wars in Afghanistan etc. Did you worry about those? . There are other wars in this world as well happening now ( Yemen, Syria, genocide in China ) , but they aren't as ' close' and the media know people aren't bothered. Look how scaled back the reporting has been as well since this war started . It's like the media know that it's not going to escalate, rather that it's going to end in parts of Ukraine being under Russian rule.

@Fairislefandango

My 23 year old is obsessed with politics and he’d put the fear of god into you over this situation.

He wouldn'tput the fear of god into me. I'm not sure that basing one's reactions on the opinions of obsessed 23 year-olds is very wise tbh Grin.

Exactly. I would smile and nod and get on with my life
duvetdayforeveryone · 24/03/2022 16:58

@HesterShaw1

What's the point of worrying?

I'm fed up of constantly fucking worrying over the things to media are telling me about. No more.

Well said @HesterShaw1
Tuba437 · 24/03/2022 16:59

Also we here alot from meetings today that sanctions can be increased if necessary. To me that's saying they wouldn't get boots on the ground if a chemical weapon was used.

The head of nato has already said they have a responsibility to make sure the war does not escalate out of Ukraine.

whitewashing · 24/03/2022 16:59

No.

FabFitFifties · 24/03/2022 17:07

FraterculaArctica - not everyone is panicking because that doesn't help ourselves, our families and children, or society as a whole. You might be putting your life on hold for nothing. Please make plans, and give yourself things to look forward to. Do you think you might need support for your levels of anxiety? Is it worth speaking to your GP?

iloveeverykindofcat · 24/03/2022 17:12

If we all die in a nuclear attack, we’re all gone there’s no one to miss and no one to miss us.

Right. That's how I feel too. I have kind of a weird perspective because I'm in the relatively small percentage of people who have indeed died - as in - I have been clinically dead - and it totally resolved my existential anxiety about dying that I'd suffered from my entire life. I didn't experience being dead. There was no me to do the experiencing. It can't really be conveyed in words. But it really showed me that there's nothing to fear.

Equalbutdifferent · 24/03/2022 17:23

There's being dead. And then there's dying.

I'm so interested in this. No NDE? Just nothing?

TargusEasting · 24/03/2022 17:36

No.

I sense there is a particular hierarchy of principles in Russia. The people have historically been embodied in a struggle and are expendable. The autocrats and the elite come next. But above them, above even Putin himself, comes The Motherland. Russia itself, its history, its culture, its churches and its very lands. It is everything.

A nuclear exchange would wipe out The Motherland. Nobody in Russia wants that, especially Putin.

My 28 year old is the same. He’s also a journalist on the national media. He laughs at me when l whimper about nuclear war. Proper laughs and says ‘don’t be daft mum’
