Or do you think realistically no one will start to use Nuclear weapons

@Gerbilteeth

I don't know why some people assume there are lots of people between Putin and the bomb. He's a dictator. I assume he has direct and immediate access. I also see him as the kind of man who wants to take others down with him.
Because he doesn’t.

I am trying not to panic as it won't make a jot of difference to the outcome. I am worried inside but trying not to show it. On the surface I am planning things for the future and looking forward to my new Grandchildren. If it does happen, my only hope is that I and my loved ones die immediately, in a quick flash, with no pain, and no warnings from the Government or anyone else.

DidymusAmbrosius · 24/03/2022 15:55

Re NATO the situation is expensive currently so if they could get to resolution more quickly why wouldn’t they? Other than escalation risk that is

War is expensive in a more public way, I think. After the last 20 years of military action in the middle east, I think a number of governments will not get support from their voters for a war.

I might be wrong, though. I just cannot see how Biden (just for eg) can tell his voters that months after pulling out from Afghanistan in such a publically poor manner he is going to send the US army into another war.

Like many people - I am just guessing, though!

gracedentssketty · 24/03/2022 15:55

@HesterShaw1

What's the point of worrying?

I'm fed up of constantly fucking worrying over the things to media are telling me about. No more.

This.

It was the media who also whipped up panic buying re covid and petrol. They are so irresponsible.

SallyWD · 24/03/2022 15:57

A little bit but I just don't give it head space. There are lots of things I find worrying or upsetting but I try not to dwell on them. I try to take each day as it comes and enjoy the present.

Notanotherwindow · 24/03/2022 15:59

I'm worried but mostly I think that it isn't likely.

Putin isn't stupid. He's a truly reprehensible human being but not stupid. Russia attacks us or any NATO member and the rest strike back.

I doubt he'll sacrifice his own country over Ukraine.

Florelei · 24/03/2022 16:03

I’m not really worried at all. I just hope that the city near me is directly hit and that I depart in the initial flash. Living through the aftermath is not appealing.

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 24/03/2022 16:06

@mibbelucieachwell

I think it's an excuse for NATO to not get directly involved. The American electorate doesn't want its military involved in yet another war, one which is very far away, with no exit plan.
I think you should look at a map - Russia and the closest part of the US, Alaska, are very close!
ArtVandalay · 24/03/2022 16:10

My 23 year old is obsessed with politics and he’d put the fear of god into you over this situation.

I’m not worried. If it happens, we’ll all be dead

Bobodebo · 24/03/2022 16:12

Ain’t going to happen!

Just get on with your life.

Tuba437 · 24/03/2022 16:13

Put it this way if there was a big risk anytime soon do you think Kate and Wills would be on jolleys in the carribean without their kids?

Secretname123 · 24/03/2022 16:14

@FraterculaArctica

I have - been to GP to increase dose of medication, on waiting list for counselling.
I’m generally only a lurker on mumsnet but one of the things that has wound me up over the years are people saying “get some help for your anxiety” in a really passive aggressive way. They have clearly never tried to get help for anxiety on the NHS.
Branleuse · 24/03/2022 16:15

no im not overly concerned. What would be the point. If its a nuclear war we all just die

Tuba437 · 24/03/2022 16:17

@grapewines

Absolutely. More so now than being a child during the Cold War. Putin doesn't give two shits about anyone. It scares me.
I think you will find Putin cares very much about Putin and Russia, both of which won't be here after a nuclear war!
ToiletPoster · 24/03/2022 16:21

It would be a bit silly for Russia to use nukes. There's no way they would hit all of the countries that would be ready and willing to send nukes back their way. It doesn't really achieve any objectives.
Beyond that, there isn't really anything you can do about it, so why worry?
Further to someone cancer analogy earlier, it's like getting a "preventative" mastectomy because you have the BRCA gene, but you're not actually able to get a mastectomy (because Russia isn't a breast), so you just sit around and worry about it all day.
One of the only things that we know is going to happen to every living person is dying. It doesn't make anymore sense to get overly worked up about this than large objects falling from the sky and crushing you. There are more instances of that happening than nukes being used in anger.

toastfiend · 24/03/2022 16:21

@Secretname123 I have sought help for anxiety through the NHS and other free services and I frequently advise that others do the same. Getting on the list is a step in the right direction, no matter how long the list is. Medication is also relatively quick to come by whilst waiting for a GP appointment and is a very valid step towards getting better for those who are contemplating suicide or unable to function normally due to their concern.

People refusing to even start the process of seeking help because "it takes too long" or claiming it's impossible to get help in any form seems so counter productive.

CarlCarlson · 24/03/2022 16:23

@FraterculaArctica

Yes. Been panicked for a month to the point I can barely function. So many articles saying this is only heading one way. Can't see the point of planning anything for the future, I don't understand why everyone else isn't panicking too.
Because everyone else doesn’t have an anxiety disorder, and it’s only those with anxiety disorders who would worry/panic to the degree you are
Weefreetiffany · 24/03/2022 16:25

For most people at most points in history the threat of annihilation was only a crop failure or threatened invasion away. In my lifetime we’ve had several significant wars and the constant threat of terrorism. All we can do is keep going about our lives and try to make things better where we can.

oakleaffy · 24/03/2022 16:25

There will be Mutually Assured Destruction
Nuclear ☢️ Winters affecting the 🌎
World.
Mum worried about this in 1980’s

We’ll all be affected if Putin kicks off.

I’m more immediately afraid of cost of living rocketing.

ThenAgainMaybeIWont · 24/03/2022 16:25

@FraterculaArctica because not everyone else is suffering with a panic disorder like you clearly are?

I'm more concerned right now about why these silly threads are allowed. Just a playground for the anxious really - feeding it in a very unhealthy fashion

stripeyflowers · 24/03/2022 16:27

I'm not worried but not because I DON'T www3 could happen - it well might. It's just I can't do a think about it.

stripeyflowers · 24/03/2022 16:27

*thing!!!

Fairislefandango · 24/03/2022 16:28

My 23 year old is obsessed with politics and he’d put the fear of god into you over this situation.

He wouldn'tput the fear of god into me. I'm not sure that basing one's reactions on the opinions of obsessed 23 year-olds is very wise tbh Grin.

oakleaffy · 24/03/2022 16:29

@Branleuse

no im not overly concerned. What would be the point. If its a nuclear war we all just die
“The lucky will die immediately. “Was said back in 1980’s

Radiation sickness is more of a concern.

I just wish humans weren’t such a vicious species.
Wars seem part of our psyche.

TheLeadbetterLife · 24/03/2022 16:30

I'm obsessed with politics and I'm not worried, except for the people of Ukraine. You can find sources for any argument if you want to, especially if you're obsessed.
