Oh, Nazanin. How dignified you are.

Just seen a clip of the press conference she gave. How generous of her to share it with the daughter of a man still trapped in Iran.

How composed and articulate she is. Honestly, with so many fucking idiots in power, how do we keep the faith in the face of what happened to Nazanin.

I feel sorry that she openly criticised her H who has helped her so much. I don't feel much hope for their marriage as the dialogue bordered on how they have to adjust to each other. This first sentence is not true and the second is crass. Nazanin did not criticise Richard. She - gently, kindly - said she felt differently to him on one point and that was about the need to thank Liz Truss. I have every hope for them. What they don't need is doomsayers. Baby steps, as Richard has said, but I think they are going to be just fine.

Photos from press conference and Brize Norton.

That's a strange reading of their interaction.

To me it looked like a really respectful disagreement of opinion between Nazanin and Richard, the way she spoke to him was full of love and gratitude. She's allowed to voice a different viewpoint to her husband.

Saucery · 21/03/2022 20:52

I’m sure they’ll sort it out between them, no need for anyone here to fret about their marriage Smile

rhizobium · 21/03/2022 20:54

@JinglingHellsBells

I am delighted she is free BUT none of us really know the truth behind her situation or what has been done to secure her release.

There will be much she is not allowed to discuss.

Fair enough - understand that- but I don't feel those comments are for the public. It's a private conversation surely?

She knows her husband did a lot more than the 5 foreign secretaries.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 21/03/2022 20:55

What a wonderful strong woman, an example to us all. I hope she is given the privacy she needs to recover from this terrible ordeal.

TheOnlyMrsMac · 21/03/2022 20:56

We agree @rhizobium - it was another poster who had the strange reading and I was correcting that.

Katya213 · 21/03/2022 20:58

She seems such a lovely lady. So sad how she was locked up for so long!

Dolphinnoises · 21/03/2022 20:59

@Cma1988

I think those victim blaming her, defending the government, saying it was her own fault for travelling to see her parents and saying she is not grateful enough, are racist.

Women of colour always get such a bad rap on this site (I am one).

I am not a woman of colour but I do agree the “ungrateful” thing is racist.
HRTQueen · 21/03/2022 21:00

Yes quite obvious some feel she doesn’t know her place Hmm

TheOnlyMrsMac · 21/03/2022 21:03

that is the crap bit.
No, that is your need to keep criticising her.

Think he might have a clue on who has actually helped.
Of course, from his perspective. And Nazanin might also have a bit of a clue from hers too.

Anyway, must go. I need to ask my husband what my opinions are before I post publicly again.

Laniania · 21/03/2022 21:05

Unbelievable that she is supposed to be so grateful that she can't criticise the way her case was managed. She spent six years in prison and house arrest. She wasn't criticising her husband and their marriage is nobody's goddamn business.

JackieWeaver101 · 21/03/2022 21:13

@JaniieJones

A bit of gratitude for the foreign secretaries who worked tirelessly to secure her freedom and some condemnation of the Iranian govt who were actually responsible would have been nice.
You're having a laugh!
ilovesushi · 21/03/2022 21:21

Beautiful, dignified, graceful and articulate woman. So glad she is home and reunited with her daughter and husband.

DancingBarefootOnIce · 21/03/2022 21:26

Why blame them for not securing her release when it was the people holding her who were to blame

So the foreign secretaries should be praised for helping, as you said before, but they should never be criticised? Surely if you can praise someone for working well you can also criticise them for not.

Boris Johnson was the worst FS with his stupid comments about her working with Iranian journalists which handed evidence to the Iranian regime.

OverByYer · 21/03/2022 21:33

Just noticed she was wearing the colours of Ukraine as well.
It will be interesting to see what she chooses to do next.
However if she wants privacy I hope that is respected.

Yeah that last comment saying it was "entitled" because she went home to visit her parents turned my stomach a little. The beauty of an anonymous site like this is that people show their true racist bigoted views, I bet that pp wouldn't be spouting that nonsense in person.
Livelovebehappy · 21/03/2022 21:46

Britain aren’t the villains here. Iran chose to keep Nazanin prisoner and obviously the debt owed was just a red herring, thrown into the mix to try to justify the kidnap.

Well, no, she was released soon after the debt was paid, so how was it a red herring?

I’m pretty sure she won’t be looking for privacy. I think she may now see this as a platform to bigger things in respect of her future career aspirations.
Katya213 · 21/03/2022 21:50

I heard somebody being interviewed on radio 4 that there was no debt, it was a ransom and has been a ransom for a number of years. The government wanted to keep that quite not to give other countries in that area ideas.

Livelovebehappy · 21/03/2022 21:52

eldora Iran didn’t give the debt as a reason for the kidnap six years ago.

eldora · 21/03/2022 21:58

Yes, they did. Nazanin herself says that in the days after being captured she was told that she was being held until they received what they asked the UK for,
declutteringmymind · 21/03/2022 22:03

I was so impressed by her. It seems that despite her obviously restrained anger and deep trauma, she has chosen to grasp all the love and happiness that she has been denied. Of course it's going to take a duck load of healing, but I admire her for understanding that any time spent on being bitter and angry is taking time away from loving and being loved, and championing her cause. Making sure that anything positive comes out of her experience will help her heal and reconcile what has happened to her.

I can't imagine what she has been through, but for her to emerge with an intact spirit is testament to the strength and integrity of her character.

HoliHormonalTigerlilly · 21/03/2022 22:04

@AnyFucker

Our so called “leaders” could learn a thing or two from her.

She makes me feel embarrassed for them and very, very angry for all of us.

This. 100 times this.
