3 year old in bed this morning slammed his entire head on to the back of my head, he was a pretty heavy skull and he put force into it. I woke up straight away in agony. His head slammed into bottom of my head and neck. Since then it's throbbed for 2 hours but also have a head ache all the top of my head into my forehead. It's just getting worse and feels like it's creeping lower down my forehead into my eyes. Made a horrible noise when he did it too. Said to dh not sure if I need to go and get looked at? Don't want to suddenly drop dead from some bleed on the brain but apparently I'm being ridiculous. Am I? I know that's obviously an extreme example but it really hurts and was pretty brutal with such force

Please don't mess around with head injuries especially at the base of your skull/neck. I know someone who had one knock with devastating consequences. Go and get checked out please.

My daughter, aged two at the time, was sitting on my kne facing forwards, for some reason she flung her head backwards, striking me full in the face. I saw stars, literally. She broke my nose. I’d also had treatment for a tooth abscess the day before and the blow dislodged some packing in the cavity. I looked like I’d done ten rounds with Mike Tyson.

So yes I’d get yourself checked out. You could have concussion.

Please go to A&E.
The tests they do are simple, they check in your eyes with a light and do reflexes and then see if you need a scan.
Head injuries can kill you, it's really important that you go.

I know that DH just can't assess this sort of thing properly, so ignore him.
He suggested my older DS went to school "and see how he feels". I took him to gp who called an ambulance.
You need to trust your judgement.

ThelmaDinkley · 20/03/2022 12:06

Please go and get checked out and don’t leave till tomorrow. Sorry you’ve got a lot going on and wishing the best for the scan too Flowers

GeneLovesJezebel · 20/03/2022 12:08

If you’ve got a head injury you shouldn’t be waiting until tomorrow. And the maternity unit won’t help you, they’ll send you to A&E anyway.

betwixtlives · 20/03/2022 12:38

Nothing to do with the maternity unit, they’ll tell you to go to a&e. Sorry about the baby Flowers

girlmom21 · 20/03/2022 12:58

I'd have tried paracetamol first - especially if you've waited a few hours anyway.

Fingers crossed all goes well tomorrow Thanks

Any update OP? I hope you're OK.

Stompythedinosaur · 20/03/2022 16:37

You need to go to hospital following a blow to the head in the following situations:

You lost consciousness.
You have been sick.
Your vision is blurred.
You have memory difficulties.
You have a headache which does not decrease with painkillers.
You have had previous brain surgery.
You have haemophilia.
Your behaviour has changed following the injury.

OopsImDoingItAgain · 20/03/2022 16:44

The pain wore off and I did nhs online which said treat at home so that's what I'm doing. All got worse with the baby though so been distracted by that and didn't come back to this thread thank you for all advice

You poor thing what an awful few days. Gently, a partner who calls you 'ridiculous' about this is a dick let alone taking into account what else you're going through this week. He doesn't sound very nice and if he genuinely usually is and this is a stress reaction or something then he needs a bollocking and a reminder he should be supporting you not adding to your stress levels Thanks

Good luck at the hospital today.
