Semantle 5

Semantle thread 4 is almost full and there's still plenty of love (and hate 🤣) for the game, so here's a new thread for Sunday's game.

If you're lucky enough not to know what I'm on about Semantle is a word game like Wordle. You need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics, not letters. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

If you want to join in the fun follow this link and prepare to lose your sanity.

If you want to see how we've been getting on up to now our previous thread is here. We tend to use the threads to rant about how we're getting nowhere, celebrate our successes and laugh about the previous day's top 1000 but please, no spoilers. Subtle hints only here; use DMs for more obvious clues.

Enjoy!
@Donatella

You've approached it the 'other' way to me. There are two direct routes to the word I would say.

Look at your words, my best suggestion is to keep looking for a 'catch-all' for what you have.
I've tried that, by thinking about what they all 'do' but that isn't helping (tried loads of words but none in the top 1000!)

Donatella · 22/03/2022 20:43

Got it!!!!

Donatella · 22/03/2022 20:45

I'd tried a longer version of the word that more specifically described the things I knew, but had a sudden flash of inspiration! Thank goodness!

I solved Semantle #52 in 203 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 18.75. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #2. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 8.22. semantle.novalis.org/

This is obscene, 491 attempts to get answer today -- DH got it in the end, btw (!)

FlippyFloppyFlappy · 22/03/2022 21:00

Sedecordle

Bytrgrewd · 22/03/2022 21:00

Squareword too. And twentyletters

Whiffle77 · 22/03/2022 21:20

Think I'm gonna have to give up today!

Wallawallakoala · 22/03/2022 21:31

Nooo whiffle, have you had clues?

Whiffle77 · 22/03/2022 21:38

Finally got it, put a random word associated with DS in that had NOTHING to do with my greens which also happened to be a green, and many many guesses later I got there! I have no idea why I play this!!!
lljkk · 22/03/2022 21:38

Let us send you hints, Whiffle.

It's a devil. There are 2 main themes to get to the answer and not easy to find their commonality.

lljkk · 22/03/2022 21:39

Xpost, hoorah!

Thanks @inmysparetime
I'm still totally flummoxed 🙈 got loads of greens now but just cannot work out the answer.

Pumpkintopf · 22/03/2022 21:53

I'm nowhere with this. I have 609 and 632 and am clueless.

Annoyingly DH and I started playing this game together on Saturday. Since then he has played it by himself and solved it before me.

Looking at your top guesses, you are going down the same sort of track I was, but with a different theme. You need to go way, way more generic. Think of a way you could describe those things without saying exactly what they are. A more literary way to say it.
