There is a South American bird called the paradise tanager, Latin name Tangara chilensis. It's found in quite a few countries in South America... but not Chile.

The dodo was a pigeon. Its closest surviving relative is the Nicobar pigeon.

Male hedgehogs enjoy the act of masturbation. They will curl over and suck themselves off Grin

Many Pygmy hedgehog owners will find their boys having boy time and sometimes pick them up finding they have recently enjoyed boy time and they have juices on them

The opalescent inshore squid female can simulate fake testicles to ward off unwanted male attention.

@Third3NewLife

Horseshoe crabs have blue blood
Came on to say this! It is because their blood is copper based, rather than iron like ours.

Moose are predated by Orca

OK so I read this as pre-dated and not predated that's why I was confused !

Me too! Blush

A useful skill indeed 😆

Frogs can't vomit in the 'conventional' way we do. They instead expel their stomach out their mouth and use their front legs to push out its contents, and then re-swallow their stomach back into position. Called gastric eversion, and a bit of Googling will show you some great videos of this!

Oh 😄

Beamur · 18/03/2022 07:41

Sorry! Moose get eaten by killer whales! Apparently moose swim to eat marine vegetation and if they're very unlucky will be lunch for a passing orca.

Laserbird16 · 18/03/2022 07:47

Spiders also have blue blood due to copper haem

Iamanunsafebuilding · 18/03/2022 07:51

The shoebill stork exists. Amazing!

Interesting. Never found any evidence on my AP hedgehog! 😅

Guinea pigs are born fully developed, unlike rats, mice, hamsters, rabbits etc. They are more able to escape predators because of this.

Rats can enjoy being 'tickled' by humans and will even laugh.

Soubriquet · 18/03/2022 09:02

@Trinacham

Have you ever encountered a stiff bit of fur. Or a patch of yellow?

That’s boy juice

pittameinhummus · 18/03/2022 09:08

Rabbits do 200-300 poos a day! Also a group of rabbits is called a fluffle

Soubriquet · 18/03/2022 09:16

Dogs can’t bark whilst pooing.

Octopuses like to punch fish for fun

Can't say I ever did with my pygmy. I've certainly had others pets who did though. I had a very randy rabbit (always chased me to hump me) and I had a chameleon who would get sperm plugs 🤢 I also used to breed guinea pigs so have seen my fair share of 'boy juice' 😅

GrouchyKiwi · 18/03/2022 09:39

Female impala can delay giving birth by a month or so if the conditions aren't right.

Slow lorises have venom glands under their armpits which they lick and then use to cover their babies in venom in case predators get them.

Orangutans eat baby lorises. Sad

antisocialsocialclub · 18/03/2022 09:44

Octopuses make little houses for themselves from rocks, they even make a door for themselves — they pull a rock into place once they’re safely tucked into their homes.

They also form opinions on other creatures, one octopus had a dislike for a certain zoo keeper and used to spray him with ink.

They can use tools, solve problems… they even use shells to decorate the ‘garden’ outside their little rock houses. 🥰

They’re amazing creatures and definitely my spirit animal Grin 🐙

WhackingPhoenix · 18/03/2022 09:47

Alpacas will only poo in one area and the herd will all line up to poo there together Smile

Soubriquet · 18/03/2022 09:47

An octopus once shorted out the lights in an aquarium.

When the aquarium closed for the day, the octopus was annoyed by the lights. So he shot a jet of water at them to short it out.

This kept happening and the staff couldn’t work out why the lights were breaking. CCTV showed Otto doing this

TrashyPanda · 18/03/2022 10:00

Sea otters have a pouch by their armpit. They store a rock in it, and use this to pry open clams etc, while lying on their backs

Koalas have smooth brains. Because of this, their neuro function is diminished.

Soubriquet · 18/03/2022 10:03

I read that about koalas yesterday. They are incredibly dumb animals.

If you were to put their favourite eucalyptus leaves in front of them, they wouldn’t eat them because they wouldn’t recognise them as food without being attached to the branch and being up right

iklboo · 18/03/2022 10:04

Most male cats are left-pawed, most females are right-pawed.
