There is a South American bird called the paradise tanager, Latin name Tangara chilensis. It's found in quite a few countries in South America... but not Chile.

Their skin is black and most of their hairs are translucent and hollow.

Moose go paddling. Orcas come inland into the shallows. Orcas eat the moose.
CythereaGraye · 17/03/2022 22:56

Male cats have spiky penis.

Mrsjayy · 17/03/2022 22:59

OK so I read this as pre-dated and not predated that's why I was confused !

AdamRyan · 17/03/2022 23:00

Female hyaenas have a "pseudopenis" that is pretty much indistinguishable from an actual penis
medium.com/a-microbiome-scientist-at-large/the-crazy-penises-of-female-hyenas-c6578ca4f343

Bdelloid rotifers are all female and able to survive in very hostile environments (space, being buried in permafrost foe 24,000 years)

Some Greenland sharks have been alive since tudor times

MilkWasABadChoice · 17/03/2022 23:15

Lotta penis facts going on here. Good ol’ mumsnet.

There is less of a time gap between humans and T. rex than between T. rex and stegosauruses

Bells3032 · 17/03/2022 23:23

We did a behind the scenes tour at a wildlife park and we were talking about the rhino preservation programme. It came to light that there's one person in the world whose only job is to tickle rhinos and collect their sperm 🤣
Fernandina · 18/03/2022 00:36

Horses cannot see the colour red.

QuattroFormaggi · 18/03/2022 00:40

Male pigs (boars) have corkscrew penises as well. So they can "screw" the sow and she can't kick him off/out til he's done

mawbroon · 18/03/2022 01:13

Blue whale mothers produce around 200 litres of milk a day.

AffIt · 18/03/2022 01:23

Sharks are amazing.

They have remained more or less as they have been for about 300 million years, which would suggest that nature went 'I have created this absolutely perfect apex predator, and that's me done. Better get on with the monkeys now.'

Rats don't have gallbladders and elephants have four knees.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/03/2022 01:25

Sharks can't swim backwards. I didn't think any creature (humans included)
could swim backwards. I didn't think it was possible.
How creepy would that look.

Incidentally I'm actually watching Strange Animal behaviors an episode of Weird or What on YouTube.
