What is this plant?

I've tried to identify it on my plant ID app, but it's not managing.

We grew onions in this container last year, but they were all picked.

Whatever it is it's doing really well 🤦‍♀️

Triffid.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 17/03/2022 21:18

No, it's not a triffid, it's friendly enough 😄

Comfrey?

ValBiro · 17/03/2022 21:22

Looks like basil, but you'd be able to smell that straight away I reckon. Or spinach - less noticeable smell though. And I don't think either of these would necessarily self-seed if you hadn't had a good amount of them hanging around in the garden last summer...

Theworldisfullofgs · 17/03/2022 21:22

I think it looks like perpetual spinach..

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 17/03/2022 21:23

I chewed a leaf and it had no particular flavour or smell.

SmellyOldOwls · 17/03/2022 21:26

Looks like some kind of lettuce. Lambs lettuce or something.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 17/03/2022 21:26

Perpetual spinach seems to have shinier leaves when I've googled.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 17/03/2022 21:28

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 17/03/2022 21:28

Free lettuce! 😃 it does look edible.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 17/03/2022 21:30

We have borage in the front garden 🤔

OP posts:
Chishnfips · 17/03/2022 21:31

Plantain. Probably a narrowleaf.

dabdab · 17/03/2022 21:32

Borage and comfrey are generally 'hairier'. Sorry, don't have any suggestions as to what it is though!

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 17/03/2022 21:34

It does look like plantain, but I thought the leaves were narrower and a darker green.

ENoeuf · 17/03/2022 21:47

Does it do anything? Flower?

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 17/03/2022 21:48

My plant app has white campion as tetop suggestion

AlisonDonut · 17/03/2022 21:48

You'd not want to chew borage or comfrey as the leaves are quite spiky.

I'd go with plantain as well. It gets everywhere.

Gregsprinkles · 17/03/2022 21:49

Not plantain. Definitely looks salady!

Gregsprinkles · 17/03/2022 21:51

Can you remember anything else growing nearby that would have spread seeds?
