Just having moan really. Lighter butter, lighter philedelphia, lighter cheese, non of them taste anywhere near as good as the original. I also cannot bear the taste if sweetener in drinks. Currently trying to lose a bit of weight and I am doinh OK but really missing an indulgent treat.

No, agree with OP that you can taste within a sip if slimline tonic used in gin. Horrible. The drinks that have really been made undrinkable for me now are the cans of lemon and orange San Pellegrino. Nothing worse that a hot day and you buy one of those expecting it to be refreshing.

WashableVelvet · 15/03/2022 17:29

Mussels are nicer than fish fingers Grin

HomeHomeInTheRange · 15/03/2022 17:40

‘Slimline’ tonic is horrid, but Fevertree ‘Naturally light’ is much better, IMO, than full fat Schweppes. It has no artificial sweeteners in it.

HomeHomeInTheRange · 15/03/2022 17:46

I now prefer the Dalston drink cans to the ruined San Pellegrino.

Light, refreshing, no sweeteners.

And too expensive to drink all the time.

Shadowboy · 15/03/2022 17:56

Minced beef. The 5% is soooo much nicer than 20/15% beef which is just greasy

FrangipaniBlue · 15/03/2022 17:59

@doradoo

Tonic! Less sweet and you can taste the gin more.
Beat me to it!

It's a no from me. Nor are the 'slimline' versions healthier. They're usually full of 'crap' chemicals. Just eat smaller portions of the real stuff and only have sweet things as the occasional treat rather than daily*

This absolutely.

However, lots of people will be posting on here to say that us ladies just have to have a cheeky or naughty (insert name of high calorie non food here) and we're just helpless victims of our naughty desires to keep eating rubbish.

MrsJBaptiste · 15/03/2022 18:32

There's a lot of us loving Pepsi Max!

Diet Coke us awful, so watery but Pepsi Nax is great. I'm obviously someone who can't taste the saccharine sweetnersvin food as I like most liq fat versions of food and drink.

100problems · 15/03/2022 18:48

Diet Pepsi, tonic and Sainsbury low sugar plain chocolate.

You can still buy the original lemon and the orange San Pellegrino. They're in slim cans labelled 'classic taste'.

Unfortunately my old favourite flavour, the grapefruit, is now disgusting Envy.

@Imtoooldforallthis

You see I disagree, occasionally someone buys me a gin with slimline and even when I'm not expecting it I can taste it a within a sip. Same with diet coke it has an awful sacherine taste. Obviously not everyone agrees.
I totally agree.

In terms of other foods, I have never eaten anything that tastes better with lower fat or sweetner

However I would very much welcome lower sugar, as long as they dont replace it with sweetner. I dont understand why some things are so sweet

bellac11 · 15/03/2022 19:41

@RiverSkater

There's a cottage cheese which I think may be from Poland which is so delicious it's hard not to eat a full pot. Sainsbury and Tesco sells it.

Other cottage cheese is rank in comparison.

Can you remember what it is?

The ONLY cottage cheese I can eat is Longley Farm, it tastes like eating double cream

It seems impossible these days to find cottage cheese which isnt low fat, when cottage cheese is such a low cal and low fat product anyway, its crazy. I can only eat Longley Farm and I can only get it in very limited shops near here.

SwedishEdith · 15/03/2022 20:53

Oooo, thank you!

5zeds · 15/03/2022 21:08

Semi skimmed milk IS nicer than full fat now I’m used to it.

Cottage cheese takes no time or effort to make so don’t buy it.

I’d use less butter not low fat spread but I need to counter balance that with more flavour filled toppings. Sun dried tomatoes makes less fatty cheese fine.

I’d say you need to move to a less dairy heavy cuisine and see if that helps rather than reinvent the wheel.

thecatsthecats · 16/03/2022 09:42

I have a special, twitchy loathing for people referring to full SUGAR drinks as the FULL FAT version.

Unless you're talking milkshakes, it's sugar, not fat! Let alone that fat is good for you... Grrr.

Leftbutcameback · 16/03/2022 09:44

I prefer skimmed or semi skimmer milk, don’t like the creamy taste of full fat. I also like the lighter Philadelphia but not the very light one

They know, they know….

It’s a joke, or irony.

I sometimes ask ‘Taste-free or full Heart Attack?’

JovialNickname · 16/03/2022 10:08

I prefer -

Diet Coke to normal coke
Semi skimmed milk to full fat
High protein low cal yogurts to normal ones (they are more like fromage frais)
Moo-phoria Ben and Jerrys to the full fat and cals version (moo-phoria is still 650 ishcals a tub though so lowER calorie, not diet)
Heinz and Hellmans light mayonnaise (not the lightest which is horrible) tastes no different to their "real" version (unless you're eating mayonnaise on its own)
Sainsburys and M and S reduced fat prawn cocktail pots are nicer than normal ones, they're more lemony and tangy.

I think light-er versions can be nicer, whilst full-on diet versions are usually nasty!

Twolostsoulsswimminginafishbow · 16/03/2022 11:21

Strawberry Angel Delight. I think that’s it. I eat everything full fat, full sugar just smaller portions.

thecatsthecats · 16/03/2022 11:59

@HomeHomeInTheRange

I'm really not convinced they all do! These people struggle with the concept of irony, even if it were particularly ironical.

Have you tasted the diet and caffeine free version? Now THAT really is brown fizzy water.

HazelBite · 16/03/2022 13:05

ARLA Bob skimmed milk does just taste like semi skimmed milk.
How anyone can drink Diet Coke when Pepsi Max is available is beyond me!

Onthetoadagain · 16/03/2022 18:39

Low fat feta and halloumi are pretty decent

CovoidOfAllHumanity · 16/03/2022 18:44

I like the Gu lighter desserts as much if not more than their full fat versions

But then again I like Diet Coke too

deadlanguage · 17/03/2022 11:40

The no added sugar/reduced sugar and salt baked beans are way nicer than the standard ones. Just had normal ones in the work canteen and they are bizarrely sweet!

SiobhanSharpe · 17/03/2022 11:56

Heinz no added sugar baked beans are good, i find their normal ones too sweet too.
The 10 calorie jelly pots are OK in extremis but some of the flavours are either weird tasting or seriously unpleasant.
Hellman's Light mayo is fine.
The very low fat + no added sugar yoghurts are not very nice -- chalky.
I like the new Coke Zero (older version was very sweet) .
Slimline tonic is too sweet but FeverTree light is ok (and I only have a very small amount in my gin anyway ...)
Low fat creme fraiche is awful -- they put weird stuff in it to 'stabilise' it which makes it gloppy and it doesn't whip. Normal creme fraiche has fewer calories than double cream and so I'm quite happy using it.
Low fat cream cheese (an oxymoron if ever there was one) is awful too, I tried using some once for carrot cake topping but after adding some sugar, it turned into liquid and was unusable.
