Has anybody gone on holiday just by yourself?

I know my manager did it... But I'm tempted to do the same and take the dog with me. Even just a weekend bender with my doggo sounds like my ideal way to disconnect!

Absolutely, iv done the Nile cruse for 2 weeks, and Malta twice, 2 weeks each time. I also used to love a cinema day alone.

I always holiday solo. Travelled all over the world - love it.

PukkaP · 15/03/2022 18:44

I've been away on my own a few times. It's brilliant. Do it. Have a brilliant time

GinAndMe · 15/03/2022 18:48

Not yet. But I am flying by myself in June when I go to meet my dad and stepmum on holiday in Spain.

livelyliz · 15/03/2022 18:50

@frustratedashell

I'm off on a cruise in April on my own. I'm a tad nervous but I'm sure I'll be fine once I'm there
I did a cruise for my first holiday on my own and loved it. I made some great friends that were on the same dinner table and we met up for pre dinner drinks each evening. The first night was the hardest but once you get talking everyone is in the same boat! During the day did my own thing, usually had breakfast in the cabin to save sitting on my own in the buffet. I loved having time to do what I wanted when I wanted.

Airbnb breaks with dogs are perfect. I usually have 2 or 3 of these a year and head to Anglesey where the beaches are perfect. The only problem with dogs is when you need to nip to the loo at a cafe so I tend to look for over doggy owners and ask them to keep an eye on mine.

I have,only for a short 4 night city break,but I loved it! I say go for it!

FourChimneys · 15/03/2022 19:06

Not abroad but several times in the UK. I love holidays with DH but a solo few days away is amazing. Total freedom to do as you please, eat whatever/whenever (a supper picnic in bed is a real treat) and not have to take anyone else into consideration.

phrow · 15/03/2022 19:09

I've been away loads of times on my own, I loved it, especially when I stayed in cottages on the coast.

Nothing like stocking up on tasty food, books, and curling up with a cuppa after a blustery walk along the coast.

Equally enjoyable are city breaks, no worries that your companion(s) aren't enjoying themselves...I spent hours in the V & A and was happy as Larry. If you enjoy your own company then you will be fine. Go for it!

LemonDrizzles · 15/03/2022 19:31

Yes many many times. Very lovely each time

twilightcafe · 16/03/2022 09:35

I've stayed in London for a few nights by myself in a hotel, even though my mum and sister live there.
They were both Confused that I didn't want to stay with them. But being able to be on my own schedule for once was heaven. I could do what I wanted, eat where I wanted, go to bed when I liked... basically heaven.

BlindGirlMcSqueaky · 16/03/2022 09:50

@ninnynonny

I've got a few days off work and would really love to just go away to the beach for a night by myself! I feel a bit guilty though and I know dh will be baffled. Not sure what to do!
You should go! It's great for your confidence to do something like this on your own.
ninnynonny · 16/03/2022 09:52

I'm very tempted. Feeling very very down at the moment about lots of things, and as much as I love dh, I cant keep burdening him with it..maybe a reflective night would help

JanisMoplin · 16/03/2022 09:55

Why feel guilty about needing time on your own after 2 years of lockdown? It is essential for everyone.

BlindGirlMcSqueaky · 16/03/2022 09:55

Definitely. Where would you go?

ninnynonny · 16/03/2022 09:59

A little village on the coast nearby where we scattered my mum's ashes when she died. It is my favourite place in this country.
Peridot1 · 16/03/2022 09:59

Yes. Did a week in Greece on my one last year. A resort we’d been to many times before so I knew it well and felt very comfortable.

Planning New York on my own too.

Peridot1 · 16/03/2022 10:00

Oh and I have a DH and a 20 year old son. They weren’t interested in going and I really needed to get away.

gettingolderbutcooler · 16/03/2022 10:03

Oh I used to go all the time! Take lots of books!
Want to stay in bed all day? Check.
Want to sunbathe until you're puce? Check.
Eat when you like? Check.
Those were the days sighs

GaiaWise · 16/03/2022 10:06

Absolutely! We have youngish kids and no one to have them. From age 2 -8 p, partner and I took it in turns to go away for 5 days alone - Barcelona, Rome etc. I loved it, could do what I wanted and when and had a break from kids. Also tended to go in September when kids were in school which is lovely in the Med.

Sadly, we no longer do this as children are aged between 9 and 11 and partner no longer feels the need for a break, whereas I still do!

Go for it!

BlindGirlMcSqueaky · 16/03/2022 10:06

I'm sorry to hear about your mum. It sounds like a lovely plan.

Hbh17 · 16/03/2022 10:10

Yes. London multiple times - galleries, theatre, sports events, restaurants, museums.
Ditto Edinburgh & Glasgow.
Geneva to watch sport.
Cape Town for several days alone, before meeting husband who was arriving there from a separate trip.
We have plenty of holidays together, but solo holidays are also fab.

ImInStealthMode · 16/03/2022 10:13

Yes! I love travelling on my own. I've been to Tenerife & Majorca for a week each, a long weekend in Paris (including Disney) and at the end of 2019 I went to Costa Rica for 3 weeks - 2 weeks on a group tour and the last week on my own.

I love being able to do whatever I want whenever I want to, and the feeling of accomplishment and independence I get from having done it, especially the CR trip.

I love travelling so didn't let being single stop me. If I waited for friends to join me I'd have either never gone, or had to compromise.

ninnynonny · 16/03/2022 10:55

@BlindGirlMcSqueaky

Thank you! It was a few years ago and we've been together since but I kind of need some space right now. Looking at prices at the place we usually stay...
midsomermurderess · 16/03/2022 11:00

I've travelled through Africa, India, Australia, NZ, SE Asia and Europe by my self. I'll be in Greece later this year on my own. You can pick and choose, or not, company as you go.
