Have you turned the heating off yet?

As it’s warmed up this week, I’ve turned the heating off today.

Normally I turn it of 31st March and on 1st October

I thought I’d go early and then see in October how long I can go

@Gilead

Yes, but I’ve been in hospital for nearly three weeks!
Well that is one way to save on the bills!
Satsumaeater · 15/03/2022 12:16

I've turned down the thermostat down to about 17.

DH feels the cold a lot more than I do, so there's a limit to how much I can reduce heating use. I'd just have the heating on for an hour in the morning and in the evening, but we have it on for about 2 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the evening.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 15/03/2022 12:21

Ours is on 19.5 so not really been on

LaraDeSalle · 15/03/2022 12:22

Six weeks ago or more. We have a warm house in winter and it’s cool in summer as it’s a very modern design/build.

onemouseplace · 15/03/2022 12:53

We've still got ours on in the morning for an hour and in the evening as it's been nice in the day here, but colder in the evenings.

Draughtly, single glazed Victorian here - my rule of thumb tends to be heating is off if it is over 10 degrees outside (we don't have the heating on overnight at all).

Ntrd · 15/03/2022 12:58

4c wet, cold and windy still for me! So I've still got mine on.

WhoWants2Know · 15/03/2022 12:59

@stuffnthings

Yep, it's pretty much off, I need to nurse 200 litres of heating oil until the price returns to something resembling sensible.
Same, it's awful to watch
CornishGem1975 · 15/03/2022 12:59

I've had it on for a couple of hours in the evening as it gets cold in the kids rooms but maybe on for about 2 hours max a day. But we've never had it on much generally. By the end of the month, it will be off until mid-October which is usual for us!

Yerroblemom1923 · 15/03/2022 13:03

Turned ours down to 15° so it's not actually on. Radiators cold. Been using the wood burner in the evenings which heats the room a bit.

Scianel · 15/03/2022 13:07

Mine is never off but obviously it's not running constantly. I have it set to 19/20 during the day then turn it down overnight.
I am keeping the daytime setting lower than I used to in light of rising energy costs.

For the few people saying they haven't had the heating on all winter, I'm curious to know the temperature in your house.

We always turn it off if we go away, often around Christmas for a week. One year when we came back it was 6C indoors, and 4C in the kitchen, which has 3 external walls. I'd have to be absolutely desperate for money before I accepted living in a 6C house!

Right, exactly. The money goes on food.

I don't know the temperature. I wear onesies and sit under blankets. And I have a thermos of water for tea.

AwayInMyMind · 15/03/2022 18:29

@DuesToTheDirt

No idea the temperature of the house. I'm in 3 bed London semi if that helps and not the wilds of Scotland.

Currently laying on the bed with 2 windows open all snug with thick pj's and a kudd.ly on !

DuesToTheDirt · 15/03/2022 20:28

@AwayInMyMind we have a stone semi in Scotland, though not one of the colder parts. It's a lovely cool house when it's 30C and everyone else is melting, but that happens about 1 day a year!
