*TW* Dd has gone missing

PigeonPie1 · 14/03/2022 14:16

My DD is in her 20s and has learning difficulties along with mental health issues. Her mental health has been gradually getting worse over the last 6 months. Resulting in several visits to A&E (usually after self harming or becoming very distressed and threatning to end her life). Where they talk to her and then send her home again once she has calmed down... Brew

This deterioration started following a traumatic event linked to her past but I don't want to go into details because it's very outing. Needless to say it has and still is destroying my daughter's mental health Sad

This morning she text me whilst I was at work saying that she was sorry but she couldn't do this any longer and was going away. Don't try to find her etc. I tried calling her but her phone is switched off. Further investigation (speaking to other people) has revealed that Dd received some news this morning that's probably triggered her into crisis again Sad I still can't get hold of her (I've got several family members trying as well). I've called the police and I'm just waiting for them to arrive and take further details.

I'm so worried and scared that she's going to do something stupid SadFlowers I don't know why I'm posting here. I just need a handhold Brew

Thinking of you and hope your daughter is found safe and well very soon Flowers

Handhold Flowers

Hoping you get good news very soon.

Jammybadger · 14/03/2022 15:04

I hope you find her soon OP. Absolutely get on to social media - post recent pictures of her, the situation and ask friends to share in local Facebook groups. If you don’t have social media then ask someone you know.

Nelliephant1 · 14/03/2022 15:17

My goddaughter went missing a few years ago and it's truly terrifying. She was gone just over a week.

The police will be excellent I'm sure.

I second the social media route, it can be really helpful in these circumstances.

cantbecoping · 14/03/2022 15:17

I cannot imagine the worry you are going through OP. My heart goes out to you. I hope you find her soon.

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 14/03/2022 15:23

Would definitely put a post together with pictures and some details, then share it to ever group you can find on Facebook for the areas she could be in. Really hope the police can help.

Notanotherwindow · 14/03/2022 15:25

If she has ongoing mental health problems does she have a counsellor or therapist that she might have reached out to? I'd imagine she must do.

Can you contact them to see if they can shed any light on where she may have gone?

I know when I have been suicidal and unable to cope, the most likely person I would contact would be my counsellor.

He is also the one who knows me the best and most likely to be able to work out where I would go. Not to mention probably the only person I would answer the phone to in that situation. Definitely worth getting in contact.

Hoping you find her safe soon Flowers

@PigeonPie1
this sounds a bit like a post that was on last week, where someone's DD was furious that the mum had popped in, and was screaming not to call in again.

I'd sau her contacting you to say she was ''Going away'' IS actually seeking your attention.

Someone who just wanted to slip away just does it, telling no one.

I'd say contacting you is a positive sign.

Someone I know personally {Young adult} who terrified the life out of their parents by giving scary messages was found by police, alive and well, after having everyone out searching.

If necessary, call police, with description of your daughter.

It must be very difficult.

Mental health support is dire in UK.

Hope your Daughter contacts you soon.

AuntFlorence · 14/03/2022 15:40

Are you near any places associated with the trauma or the time when the trauma occurred?
Could she have gone to a friends house or boyfriend?
Does she have any particular interests or things she's drawn to? Eg. I always go sit by water be that the sea, a river, a lake or pond etc. Whereas I know other people who will go sit at a train station or train bridge, or go to the nearest woods, or some people like to be 'up high' so find a cliff, tall building or hill, some other people like skate parks, or derelict buildings.
Or alternatively, is there a restaurant, coffee or fast food place she particularly likes? If she loves Costa coffee or McDonald's milkshakes or playing arcade games?

Deafdonkey · 14/03/2022 15:43

I agree with the pp, by contacting you she is asking for help. I'm so sorry having experienced similar, I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Hollywolly1 · 14/03/2022 15:46

This sounds incredibly distressing. I agree with others regarding using social media to get some attention. I hope you get some good news soon

Hope this resolved quickly and happily for you. 💐

Not sure what words will help, but all the best and positivity op.

Handhold from me too. I know how it feels alas. Does she have any favourite places where she feels comfortable and safe? When dd went missing last time she ended up at the theatre, she loves musicals - not where you would think but it's her safe space

spiderlight · 14/03/2022 16:09

Offering another hand to hold. I really hope she's home safe very soon.

gogohm · 14/03/2022 16:10

If by chance you are in the greater Bristol area I'm about to go to cribbs causeway mall, pm me her photo and I'll keep a look out.

This is what I was thinking and was trying to word it nicely. If she was disappearing with the intention of doing something serious then she wouldn’t have told you, she’d have gone and done it. She’s clearly having a legitimate crisis, but I think this is her way of crying out for help if she’s sent you a massively attention seeking message knowing that you’ll immediately get the emergency services involved etc. Fingers crossed that she resurfaces soon
