Aylesbury

@zafferana the wendover bloody road doesn’t move either way between town and Bedgrove every single morning and evening at school times 😫

ShrigleyForty · 15/03/2022 21:16

Glossop. I momentarily looked at houses and then gave my head a wobble. Ridiculous.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 15/03/2022 21:21

Glossop is just horrific. Cute town with a permanent traffic jam.

PinotPony · 15/03/2022 22:30

Another vote for Worthing. I was 15 years old when I wrote to my MP about the bypass proposals as a school project. I'm 47 now.

Loads of houses alongside the existing single carriageway were compulsory purchased in the 90s, sat empty for years and then sold back to the public.

The whole A27 is completely overwhelmed by traffic. It often takes me over an hour to get to work in Brighton - 12 miles away.

If they can tunnel through solid rock in Italy, I really don't understand why we can't tunnel under the chalk of the South Downs...

@UrsulaPandress

Tintwistle
Most definitely Tintwistle! I've been doing that route to Manchester for the best part of 30 years and I've realised there's no good day or time to do it. Thank god it's only a couple of times per year nowadays!
Fernandina · 15/03/2022 22:45

Hitchin.

Agree with Aylesbury too.

dodobookends · 15/03/2022 22:47

@ThatPosterIsSoRight

The trouble is, this is how bypasses go:
 1. Bad traffic
 2. Build a bypass
 3. Build retail parks on the town side of the bypass
 4. People drive on the bypass to go to the retail parks
 5. Build houses in spare land town-side, right up to the bypass.
 6. All those new people drive
 7. Build houses on the non-town side of the bypass
 8. Bypass now gridlocked
 9. Sat nav always tells you to drive through the town/city as quicker
10. Town traffic now worse than before the bypass.

Chichester is an example of this.

So true!
Halloweenadoodle · 15/03/2022 23:05

Towcester
If the m1 is blocked southbound from jct 16 you have to use the A5 run to get to Milton Keynes but it takes you through the middle of Towcester which is a fricking nightmare.

Apparently they are building a "relief road" whatever the fuck that means. But they have been saying that for nearly 5 years now.

MummersMumming · 15/03/2022 23:24

Tavistock. Lots of traffic to/from Plymouth goes through the town and it just takes one accident or set of roadworks to cause absolute chaos. But seeing as Tavistock is part of a World Heritage Site, with a national park on one edge of the town and an AONB on the other I'm not sure a bypass is ever likely!

@zafferana

Aylesbury
I saw the thread title and immediately thought Aylesbury, difficult to get into and once you're here, you can never leave.
NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 16/03/2022 05:43

Dumfries, has a pointless half bypass, fgs finish it!

garlictwist · 16/03/2022 06:15

Ilkley. Don't know where they'd build it though as there's moors all around it. But I always think if I die and go to hell it will be a eternal version of sitting in a traffic jam in fucking ilkley.

garlictwist · 16/03/2022 06:18

@Peccary

If this was an X Factor type contest, Glossop/Mottram would definitely be getting its bypass!

It's actually OK in the town itself at the minute as the Snake is closed indefinitely but the people of Mottram, Tintwistle etc have it worse

I did wonder how the closure of snake pass is affecting residents. It must be a nightmare.
CosmicComfort · 16/03/2022 06:34

Another vote for Worthing. Sit in the queue through Worthing morning and night. Just the small issue of the South Downs and sea to figure out🤷‍♀️🤣

Metalhead · 16/03/2022 07:45

Tunbridge Wells.

Porridgeislife · 16/03/2022 08:09

I’d really like a bypass to bypass the Oxford bypass. I can get to Headington A40 in about 15 minutes but to traverse the rest to the other side is often 30 minutes+ in solid traffic.

maggienolia · 16/03/2022 08:11

Not strictly a town but Harston. Just needs to run from Royston and join the M11 further up please.
And bypass the hell that is Foxton Level Crossing.
Maybe one day South Cambs may actually make a decision. Won't be holding my breath though.

stimpyyouidiot · 16/03/2022 08:24

@Elderflower14

Long Stratton in Norfolk... They've been waiting since I was a child and I'm nearly 53!
Omg couldn't agree more!

I made my daughter do driving practice around the ring road for about a month one December. It was the only way we could fit it in after school. Of course it was always rush hour. She said she hated me, the car and driving after one session 😂
sqirrelfriends · 16/03/2022 11:41

Reading, I get a cold sweat if I need to drive there.

Any issues on the m4 and there's gridlock which then causes issues on A329 (and other roads I'm sure)

The one way system is a joke, people seem to never know which lane to be in so they just push in.

Billandben444 · 16/03/2022 12:22

Yet another vote for Hertford

Player456 · 16/03/2022 13:41
@zafferana the wendover bloody road doesn’t move either way between town and Bedgrove every single morning and evening at school times 😫
Tell me about it, Bicester Road between Broadfields Tesco and the town centre is dire too...ditto Bierton, Buckingham Rd/Weedon Road traffic lights, Oxford Road, etc, etc....the whole place!

Crinkle77 · 16/03/2022 13:53

Ormskirk, West Lancs. Its only a small market town but the traffic is horrendous. Its all one way too and if there's an accident its just total gridlock.

Mysterian · 16/03/2022 14:11

And another one for Worthing. It makes so much sense to have a road running along the south coast, but when it goes through a town, oh boy!

Thegingerpig · 16/03/2022 16:10

Another vote for Worthing. Takes me an hour to drive 12 miles to work in Hove. If there’s a hold up on either the A259 or A27 then you’re screwed.
