If you're a Rainbow/Beaver Leader - what do they call you?

So I'm opening a new Rainbow unit having done Brownies before. In Brownies the leaders are all called after owls - Brown Owl in charge and then Tawny Owl etc but there is no standard for Rainbow leaders (same in scouts - Cub leaders are jungle book characters but can't see any names for beaver leaders)

I've been told I can be whatever I want but I don't know what to choose!!

If you run Rainbows or Beavers and have a naming system can you share what it is to give me ideas?

Our Beaver leaders are all named after an animal and an adjective - Groovy Hedgehog, Brave Bear, Chief Squirell, Black Badger.

Beees · 13/03/2022 12:08

All the rainbow units I've ever encountered are named after woodland animals such as Mrs Hedgehog, Miss Fox, Miss Squirrel or Mrs Badger etc I didn't know they got to choose. I suppose because I've come across so many who all used woodland animals I just assumed that's what they were like brownies were all owls.

RainbowRename · 13/03/2022 12:10

woodland creatures could be a good idea.....I quite like the sound of Miss Fox!

Our Beavers and Cubs are named after Jungle Book characters: Kaa, Bagheera and Akela.

JoanThursday · 13/03/2022 12:16

Beavers and cubs leaders, obviously!

SweetPotatoDumpling · 13/03/2022 12:20

I don't run Rainbows anymore but I used to. I was Otter 🦦 and my 2IC was Badger 🦡 🥰

Reluctantadult · 13/03/2022 12:22

Ours have daft names like Sparkle, piglet and meercat. I think a theme would be better personally.

TalesOfDrunkennessAndCruelty · 13/03/2022 12:24

When I was a Brown Owl (until a couple of years ago) we were encouraged not to have the standard owl names, but to pick something individual to us, so we all had nature (but not owl) names.

Sausagedognamedmash · 13/03/2022 12:24

Our rainbows leaders are all named after flowers : Rose, Bluebell, Daisy, Lily and Primrose.

robocracker · 13/03/2022 12:24

I'm a guide leader, some guide leaders use names we just use our actual names. We used to have a Pooh bear theme and I scrapped it ages ago!

If you want a name you can go with a theme or just randomly choose your favourite animal or character or something!

When I was little, our rainbow leaders were Fern, Heather and Thistle. I like the idea of names of flowers or what about months (April, May and June) or colours (Violet, Scarlett, Primrose).

TheWayOfTheWorld · 13/03/2022 12:32

At the Beavers my DC went to the leaders were called their names; at Cubs it was Jungle Book characters.

FavouriteGame · 13/03/2022 12:37

They had bird names at my daughter's Rainbows. Swan, Hummingbird, etc.

Sideorderofchips · 13/03/2022 12:38

I'm hedgehog. My young leader daughter is bear

Siepie · 13/03/2022 12:38

I’ve helped with 2 Rainbow units. At one of them we were owls because most of us also ran the Brownie unit that met straight after. That way the girls didn’t have to learn a new name for us when they moved up.

At the other, the names were slightly random nature names (e.g. butterfly, sunshine, rosebud)

LittleOwl153 · 13/03/2022 12:42

Beavers had toy story characters: Buzz, Woody etc

Rainbows I think were flowers or animals

thismeansnothing · 13/03/2022 12:42

At my daughter's cub group the leader is called Akela

Pumpfive · 13/03/2022 12:43

In my experience, brownies don't have traditional names anymore. The last unit I volunteered at, we were all flowers.

DockOTheBay · 13/03/2022 12:44

My daughters rainbow leader is just called by her first name.

Needcoffeecoffeecoffee · 13/03/2022 12:46

Bird names (not owls) for beavers

DockOTheBay · 13/03/2022 12:47

Possibly true. I'm Brown Owl but my assistant leaders don't have owl names
BurntO · 13/03/2022 12:54

Mine just uses actual names

over2021 · 13/03/2022 12:57

My rainbow leader was Badger!

I still bump into my daughter's Brown Owl and despite her having left Brownies more than 5 years ago and knowing Brown Owl's actual name I still call her Brown Owl if I see her 😂

2pinkginsplease · 13/03/2022 12:58

When I was a rainbow young leader all the leaders were named after weather. Eg Rain, Thunder, Sunshine etc.

We thought that linked in well with a Rainbow.

itssquidstella · 13/03/2022 12:59

When I was at Rainbows (in the early 90s!) the leaders were named after flowers. My favourite was Buttercup; she had false teeth and sometimes (if we asked persistently enough) she'd push her tongue out between her palate and her top set of false teeth 😆
