Browsing for some bras on a lingerie website, came across this pic and just cannot work out what it is!

It's a prosthetic arm

Laiste · 09/03/2022 07:46

Is it? I did wonder about that but it doesn't look like one i've seen before.

Not that i'm an expert!

@Akite

It's a prosthetic arm
Looks like it. Or at the very least she’s had a horrible accident and has some medical device on it.
RonniePickering · 09/03/2022 07:48

Yeah it look prosthetic to me.

Laiste · 09/03/2022 07:49

I thought at first it was a very intricate/elaborate kind of decorative piece.

It's not a prosthetic, you can see her hand under it. I think it's some sort of brace, as if her lower arm is extremely weak, which allows her to use her fingers.

Dilbertian · 09/03/2022 07:56

Second thoughts: the index finger looks like a prosthetic that can be flexed.

JollyAndBright · 09/03/2022 08:04

If you look closely it’s definitely a prosthetic arm.

LemonViolet · 09/03/2022 08:12

Is it both, a decorative prosthetic?

Does she have it on in other pictures too?

PinaColada123456 · 09/03/2022 08:14

It's either a brace or a prosthetic.

SecretPineapple · 09/03/2022 08:15

How is it a prosthetic when you can see the veins on the back of her hand? I think it's a brace.

TeaStory · 09/03/2022 10:33

How is it a prosthetic when you can see the veins on the back of her hand?

Prosthetics are amazing these days, they’re not just just blank plastic - there are silicone ones with realistic veins, freckles, everything.

waterlego · 09/03/2022 10:35

It does look like a prosthesis to me, though it looks as though she may also have some real hand there. Are partial prosthetics a thing? Say if you have lost part of your hand?

Thatsplentyjack · 09/03/2022 10:38

Looks like her thumb and first 2 fingers are prosthetics.

TheCanyon · 09/03/2022 10:53

The model is Kelly Knox

PinaColada123456 · 09/03/2022 11:12

So it is a prosthetic. There are many pictures of her here www.milkmanagement.co.uk/special-bookings/1152-kelly-knox/ with a stump just past the elbow.

Laiste · 09/03/2022 11:50

Great detective work @TheCanyon !

Cool.
Brave lady then and well done to her :)

Really refreshing to see how inclusive the site is then. I feel it deserves a mention - Playful Promises.

(i'm not on commission i promise!)

There is a sudden movement to let us crips be publicly visible. It works on me. I almost always buy something if I see that.

Unfortunately we still have a few years of people peering at callipers, prosthetics and appliances and asking each other “What IS that?”

Can I ask Thoosa - is that a standard sort of prosthetic or has it got additional functionality / has been built that way for style?

I’ve never seen one like that before and interested to know if it’s unusual / very innovative or something

Thoosa · 09/03/2022 12:02

I don’t know much about prosthetics. I’d just consider it her arm.

Thoosa · 09/03/2022 12:03

(But if people are steampunking their stuff, I would read it as defiance. Grin)

One day we might not be ogled at and have our existence/appearance questioned... hopefully
