Semantle episode 3

Somehow we've almost filled 2 threads already so here is thread 3. I still need a distraction from the news, and Semantle certainly fits the bill.

To understand what I'm on about followthis link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

Still can't get it. I've tried every combination and slight association with the words I have. Every guess is a high green, it is like circling round an invisible centre.

This game will be the death of me

I solved Semantle #41 in 12 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 2.73. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #2. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 51.22 (991/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Literally had the whole university involved with this this morning

I solved Semantle #41 in 193 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 4.18. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #156. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 14.29. semantle.novalis.org/

I've so far had 22 guesses. Got a high-mid green at 9. Have 11 negatives, 9 of these after the green (and thus inspired by it). Fully suspect my green is a green herring!

I solved Semantle #41 in 24 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 0.54. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #19. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 23.98 (650/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

I’m now on 100 guesses and the highest score I’ve had so far is 12. Fucking TWELVE 😩 I’m never getting this!

This game is very very odd, some of those words in the top 1000 are ridiculous.

While there's knowledge and skill involved, it's more luck I think. I'm not convinced by this game at all.

I gave up! Bit cross as I tried one word which had a super low score - would have expected it to be much higher and then I’d have followed that track!

I'm so proud of myself, I solved it in 39 :D

Got it in 44, I went far too specific.

Having looked at the list of words for today. Hmm.

The source material for all words used in the game is Google News, so misspellings/typos seem unlikely. They wouldn't show up nearly as often in articles as the correct spelling surely.

I have lots of 900s and am running out of ideas!

Well, I'm 51 guesses in, having found 998 on my 42nd guess and I'm beginning to lose the will to live! How on earth am I not thinking of a word that's so close to 998 and how the bloody hell are the 2 words that seem most related to it to me so fricking cold??!!!

Is anyone who's already got it willing to hear a PMed rant about this? It'll contain too many of the nearest words to be able to post here!

Funny isn't it?

yesterday I got really quickly - 19 or something - and today everyone is solving really quickly and I am at 55 and not a green in sight. Still throwing random words in.

I think I need a low level green clue to stop be throwing the towel in today. Anyone?
