Semantle episode 3

Somehow we've almost filled 2 threads already so here is thread 3. I still need a distraction from the news, and Semantle certainly fits the bill.

To understand what I'm on about followthis link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

If you want to see how we've been getting on up to now, thread one is here, thread two here.

Enjoy, just don't plan on getting anything else done at the same time!

I had the same sort of words and they’re not related to the answer very well. The word doesn’t have the ending that those words might suggest. The clue I was given was think smaller and quieter.

Got it immediately after I posted my last post thanks to a clue from @ElegantlyTouched.

I solved Semantle #43 in 116 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 9.03. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #22. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 36.52 (849/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Thanks Bytrgrewd Mind is still a blank. It will come though.

VivienneDelacroix · 14/03/2022 00:28

What the heck are 997 and 996? Confused

Choux · 14/03/2022 00:43

997 is a type of the target word. More commonly used in the US I believe. 996 I have no idea.

996 is apparently an American word to describe the condition of a particular type of the target word in a specific context. Confused

InMySpareTime · 14/03/2022 06:54

I've never heard anyone use the word 996 in any context, shows the bias of the source I suppose.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/03/2022 06:54

What was yesterdays word?

InMySpareTime · 14/03/2022 06:55

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz if you click the ? On the top right of the Semantle page, yesterday's word is at the bottom.
