Semantle episode 3

Somehow we've almost filled 2 threads already so here is thread 3. I still need a distraction from the news, and Semantle certainly fits the bill.

To understand what I'm on about followthis link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

How many words are there for this? I've tried everything in the area of what I think it is and still no joy

I solved Semantle #41 in 86 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 31.55 (896/1000).My penultimate guess had a similarity of 36.00 (941/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

@MrsElm Nope! But I got distracted by work. I'm hoping stepping away from it for a while might get my brain working again, so I'll see what occurs to me over the next hour or so then beg again if necessary!

I solved Semantle #41 in 65 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 0.56. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #4. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 66.64 (998/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

I DON'T BELIEVE IT.

so I gave up. Tha answer was a word that I was sure I had put in, was definitely sure I had entered.
So I checked my list, and no I hadn't
But also I had put in very similar, so let's say the word was driver. I had put in driving. And it hadn't scored in top 100.

I'm sulking now....

It worked, I got it! And now I have I cannot believe it took me so long having gotten 998! But phew!

the list includes a definite mispelling, and th eplural of the mispelling and an abbreviation.

Oh my god I've just looked at the nearest words and I am FURIOUS!!! How on earth is 999 close at all?! This game will be the death of me

Ha, I'm finding myself having to have a go if I'm up past midnight, if not, as soon as I wake up 😑

@FlippyFloppyFlappy yes quite. I'm interested in why my days now start with wordle and move on to semantle. I gave up alcohol after Christmas. I seem to have replaced it with word games and biscuits. On balance, not a bad swap.

Thought this would be my first time giving up. I went from 553 to 690 to 950 and then got it.

first try at this today and 33 goes. First guess had a similarity of 2.12

I've just seen 999 and this game is ridiculous.

As a newbie it's interesting reading your comments to see how your minds (and the game) work. Helped me to see that I was going down a very specific dead end and that I needed to think a bit more laterally.
