Semantle episode 3

Somehow we've almost filled 2 threads already so here is thread 3. I still need a distraction from the news, and Semantle certainly fits the bill.

To understand what I'm on about followthis link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

Well, I've just solved today's word. God knows how as it was even more random than usual.

I solved Semantle #40 in 88 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -3.30. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #21. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 13.81. semantle.novalis.org/

Happy today, I seem to have skipped over anything problematic.

Mostly, why was only bolognese there, there are plenty of other generously apportioned dishes.
If Mumsnet were in charge of the list, it would surely have said "arse" somewhere.

@ToodlesMcGee 29 is a collection of letters contracted beyond their scope as a word. In a game about words I expect only words to count. 986 has a load of extraneous vowels if 29 is acceptable.

Pretty sure I’ve landed on today’s version of Bolognese.

I solved Semantle #40 in 124 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 1.41. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #46. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 0.26. semantle.novalis.org/

An AI wouldn't know the difference in its source material. I think the target words are from a list of 5000 normal words though.

Today is my yesterday! I'm on guess 93 and not a single green yet!!

I solved Semantle #40 in 119 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 4.11. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #70. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 21.50. semantle.novalis.org/

I have 987 and a few related words which are green but lower, I can’t seem to get any nearer. Today’s going to be a tricky one for me I think.

Ok, please can someone give me a hint. My highest is 16 and I'm info 163. There can't be that many words!

And any kind of 987 I try (apart from 967) is downright cold - can anyone give a hint about whether it’s worth pursuing that line of enquiry?

Solved in just under 80 today! Am I the only one who doesn't like the standard copy paste result wording? For me the only interesting thing is how many guesses it took!

Hit a very high green within a handful of guesses and got nowhere. 100 guesses later I have a sort of theme but can't see how to progress.

What is 987 for the others?

@weebarra just put a load of generic words and follow the theme that develops from those that have a similarity in the 20.5s ish

After failing at my last few attempts and taking a break I managed to guess in 33 today.

It is the interesting thing, but there's also no "proof" people have done it in the number they've claimed 🤔 (Not calling anyone a liar, mind).
