Semantle episode 3

Somehow we've almost filled 2 threads already so here is thread 3. I still need a distraction from the news, and Semantle certainly fits the bill.

To understand what I'm on about followthis link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

If you want to see how we've been getting on up to now,thread one is here, thread two here.

Enjoy, just don't plan on getting anything else done at the same time!

Spudlet · 10/03/2022 07:31

Aha, did it! I got a really high green quite early on totally at random, but then tap danced around it for ages 🙄

I agree. I'd rather not see spoilers on this thread, people can private message if requested like we originally have.
LiveintheNow · 10/03/2022 07:43

Weirdly went from nowhere near to guessing it quickly

I solved Semantle #40 in 33 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 7.44. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #29. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 26.58 (693/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

Naw! I got it in 53, only took 10 minutes! I'm hiding in my room with Covid - what am I meant to do with the rest of my day now?? 🤣

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 10/03/2022 07:49

Best yet, thanks for the hints!

Caranjo · 10/03/2022 07:54

Got it in 86, the theme wasn't really one of my strong points (or the theme I ended up on, anyway!)

Spudlet · 10/03/2022 07:57

@HadEnoughOfBears My other two daily games are Wordle and GeoGuessr…

There's a site called pimantle which has an archive plus its own new ones. It's got a different way of displaying the hits on a scatter graph which (sometimes) helps you see relationships and dead ends. It's got a Hint button but not a give semantle.pimanrul.es

HadEnoughOfBears · 10/03/2022 08:02

@ErrolTheDragon thank you, I will have a look

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 10/03/2022 08:09

Won't let me share for some reason, got in 18 guesses!

ToodlesMcGee · 10/03/2022 08:11

@InMySpareTime

29 is not a word and has no vowels.
29 (21.97) is the same as 839 (29.32), so that's the connection to the winning word.
ErrolTheDragon · 10/03/2022 08:11

@InMySpareTime

So can we now talk about yesterday's anomalous words? WTF was Bolognese doing there, let alone Chartable and Geat?
The last two must be spelling mistakes. And if you don't understand that there should be an association between 'bolognese' and 'generous', don't bother inviting me to dinner.Grin
Snorklette · 10/03/2022 08:13

Thank you Lordy above. Got it in 46 today leaving plenty of time to make 325 for tea Smile. Although I will now just toddle off to look at the pimanrul thingy site that @ErrolTheDragon mentioned..

I need to work on my initial guessing strategy Hmm
