Semantle episode 3

Somehow we've almost filled 2 threads already so here is thread 3. I still need a distraction from the news, and Semantle certainly fits the bill.

To understand what I'm on about followthis link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

If you want to see how we've been getting on up to now, thread one is here, thread two here.

Enjoy, just don't plan on getting anything else done at the same time!

@WildImaginings no, 991 is not a synonym. Not a direct antonym either, sorry! More a result of target word.

Thank you - I'm no closer, racking my brains! Most of the words I've got are synonyms of that word!

MadisonAvenue · 09/03/2022 22:22

@WildImaginings

Argh, cannot get past 991. Can someone please just confirm for me if it's a synonym of this word?
Which other greens do you have in the 900s?
ZiaMcnab · 09/03/2022 22:23

@WildImaginings you would be 991 if someone did something target word for or to you!

Saying so many example sentences out loud at the moment 😂

@MadisonAvenue I've got 991, 977, 968, 967, 946, 945, 907, 904, 903!

AllTheYoungGoodyTwoShoes · 09/03/2022 22:42

Any more hints before I go to bed?

WildImaginings · 09/03/2022 22:42

Just got a load more in the 900's including 994. I'm on the right track, just trying to get over the final hurdle!

WildImaginings · 09/03/2022 22:46

Finally! Got it! Thank you @ZiaMcnab you definitely helped me get on the right track!

DoorLion · 10/03/2022 00:10

I just thought I’d have a quick look before I went to bed and I got it quite quickly - now what am I going to do tomorrow?

I solved Semantle #40 in 43 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 11.11. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #34. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 15.36. semantle.novalis.org/

BowerOfBramble · 10/03/2022 00:24

Same @DoorLion (love the name)! Mind you it’s probably healthier than it taking over our lives!

I solved Semantle #40 in 34 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 0.77. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #6. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 30.18 (865/1000).

Now off to peruse the top 1000 words and find today's oddball word.

Choux · 10/03/2022 00:46

I give you word 219. Well I won't give it to you but check it out!

VivienneDelacroix · 10/03/2022 01:02

How on earth did you do it in 47? I've been stuck at 998 for 60 guesses.

Choux · 10/03/2022 01:06

An element of luck. I thought I saw a theme so tried a few related words. My highest word before I got it was 985.

VivienneDelacroix · 10/03/2022 01:06

Oh for goodness sake. 201! I was way overthinking it.

I solved Semantle #40 in 201 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 1.52. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #87. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 43.35 (991/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

VivienneDelacroix · 10/03/2022 01:07

Well done Choux!

Drawerofcrap · 10/03/2022 03:43

Need to learn to think of more everyday words, rather than the fancy ones I come up with. Might solve it quicker then 🤔 🤷🏻‍♀️🙄

LovedayCL · 10/03/2022 04:34

This one is driving me crazy. 987 with hundreds of guesses.

LovedayCL · 10/03/2022 04:46

Ahhh got it!!

Ricardothesnowman · 10/03/2022 05:36

Ulysses · 10/03/2022 05:53

I gave up yesterday’s, was very close but kept going down the wrong path. Hopefully it will work out better today.

InMySpareTime · 10/03/2022 06:06

I solved Semantle #40 in 77 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 4.05. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #13. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 12.96. https://semantle.novalis.org/

I got it from word 724Smile

InMySpareTime · 10/03/2022 06:08

So can we now talk about yesterday's anomalous words?
WTF was Bolognese doing there, let alone Chartable and Geat?

InMySpareTime · 10/03/2022 06:22

And today's word list is just odd, 782 Confused I can't even see how that's a typo, 679 is a very esoteric spelling though I can actually see the connection.
642 has to be a typo.
