How many loads of washing for a house of 2?

catfunk · 03/03/2022 18:17

We usually have 4 ...

1x darks
1x lights inc 2 bath towels
1x bedding
1x socks pants boxers which get tumble dried
In winter a wool wash every other week.

Is this excessive for 2 adults in one house? All done on eco setting but lights are 60 degrees eco.
I keep seeing posters saying they only do one load a week - how ? My bedding and towels would be an extra load!

Usually two, sometimes three in a week. Two adult sized people.
1 x clothes
1 x towels and bedding (two beds but not changed every week)

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 03/03/2022 18:30

We're a house of 3 (2 adults, 1 toddler)
We're 4 washes a week

1x light
1x dark
1x colours
1x bedding or towels (I do them alternative weeks)

However, our gorgeous pup is approaching 17 and is increasingly incontinent so we have between 3 and 5 loads of washing of just his bed/blankets that are being washed extra a week.

peboh · 03/03/2022 18:35

Household of 2 and a half (dh, myself and dd3)
3 loads of washing a week. 2 loads of everyday clothing and 1 load for dds nursery uniform.
Then once every other week 2 extra loads towels, bedding etc

I honestly don't think I've ever separated clothing.. I've never had a problem and just don't have the time in a day to faff about splitting things into lights/darks and colours.

peboh · 03/03/2022 18:36

I do find it a bit odd you're doing socks, pants and boxers on their own instead of just throwing them in with your other loads.

AgentProvocateur · 03/03/2022 18:37

2 a week - one lights, one darks. Bedding wash when I change it (which is a lot less frequently than weekly!)

DownWhichOfLate · 03/03/2022 18:38

I find it odd that people put towels in with other washing as I don’t want fabric conditioner on my towels but do want it on my clothes.

EffOrfagain · 03/03/2022 18:41

4 - 6, DH either goes fishing, cycling, or running most days and has a lot of dirty stuff, since we retired we seem to have more washing.

parafirstjoint · 03/03/2022 18:43

3 black for uniform, work clothes and gym stuff
1 white wash
1 bedding
1 towels sometimes 2

6 on average.

pradavilla · 03/03/2022 18:49

When it was just 2 of us we usually did 5-6 a week so I'd say ur on low side. My dh work stuff wld take up 2 loads and towels one and bedding an another then j guess all my stuff and dh from wkend would make up the other 2 loads.

I have 2 young kids now and I think we must do about 12-14 a week 🙈

devildeepbluesea · 03/03/2022 18:50

3 per week here. All clothes in together, 2 loads and then bedding/towels. My machine is huge though.

gogohm · 03/03/2022 18:51

3-4

EffOrfagain · 03/03/2022 18:53

It probably depends what sort of lifestyle you have, office workers or wfh people will probably have less than manual jobs

macshoto · 03/03/2022 18:54

1x shirts (lights)
1x underwear (delicates)
1x darks
1x bedding
1x woollens every 2-3 weeks
1x towels every 2-3 weeks

All except towels and bedding at 40C, and those at 60C.

ClariceQuiff · 03/03/2022 18:59

DH and me - 2 loads a week on average. DH doesn't do it on regular days, just gathers it up when the laundry basket is getting full. Usually everything goes in together on the 30 degree eco setting, unless there's something that particularly needs a higher temperature.

Northernsoullover · 03/03/2022 19:03

3 adults, 3 loads a week. That includes towels. Sheets would be done twice a month and I can get all our bedding in one load (9kg) we do change our sheets more often than once a month but I have a lot of spares so might do a few extra loads on nice days so it can go on the line.

Celoo · 03/03/2022 19:05

I do a load most days for me and husband

SheWoreYellow · 03/03/2022 19:08

You could put the underwear in with the darks. But otherwise that looks fine.

catfunk · 03/03/2022 19:19

@SheWoreYellow I could but I hate having loads of pants abs socks hung around everywhere so I tumble them separately 😂

I don’t think so, we do 10/11 for a family of six. Roughly a load of clothes a day and 3-4 of bedding and towels on top. Trying to reduce energy use now so where I already did kids beds alternate weeks I now do our bed and towels alternate weeks too (which I feel gross about but am giving it a decent trial to see if I can get used to it). Also seeing what clothes can get more wears out of them but tbh this involves a bit too much of MY energy so it’s often easier to just chuck it in the basket rather than examining everything Blush

Mommabear20 · 03/03/2022 19:23

For a family of 4 (2 adults, 1 toddler and 1 baby) i have a routine of 1 load a day to wash, dry and put away:
DD on a Monday
Mine on a Tuesday
DS on a Wednesday
DH on a Thursday
Bath towels and Swimming costumes and towels on a Friday
And all 3 beds worth of bedding on a Saturday
I have Sundays off 😂

LemonViolet · 03/03/2022 19:31

Usually do at least 1 load a day.

We sort into different laundry boxes for darks/colours, lights, towels, delicates, and whichever box is fullest gets put on, plus between bedding, dog stuff, cleaning towels/cloths etc. every day there will be something to put on. I wear uniform for work so usually wear at least 3 sets of clothing a day (uniform, dog walking, home/relaxing/loungewear). DP wears uniform as well but leaves it all at work until everything needs washing at once which is about 4 loads in a day!

Keeping on top of laundry is one of my need-to tasks to keep control of the house. Every morning and evening, aim to do something with the laundry for 5 mins (wash on, hang up, put away etc) to keep on top of it.

CIaireFraser · 03/03/2022 19:33

One a week for me and DH.

dudsville · 03/03/2022 19:33

Depens on your machine and clothing habits.
We do one load each personal clothes
One towels
One bedding

Kite22 · 03/03/2022 19:35

Not sure why the underwear isn't going in with either the darks or lights, depending on which colour each item is.
When we were just 2 for a few months last year, I think I was only doing 2 or 3 washes. I don't 'wash' on a specific day, so just put one on when we had enough. I don't change the bedding each week though, and we were working from home / happy to wear things a bit longer as not really moving much.
It would be different of one or both of you were exercising every night or playing rugby in the rain twice a week, rather than us sitting still at computer screens most of the week.
