Been waiting for police for nearly 5 hours

I called 999. They know if I call what it’s about and I need urgent police assistance
That was at 9pm
Called back at 10.30 - assured they’ll visit and said they’re busy
At what point do I give up? I have to be up in 4.5 hours for work! Not that I feel I could sleep anyway after what happened.

I think this comment is dreadful, I'm sure you have been damaged by your own terrible experiences but you are completely wrong.
TigerLilyTail · 03/03/2022 05:20

I think you are being really unfair. The Op has an injunction again this person, so they are in breach of that injunction so she was absolutely right to call the police as an emergency. She should have to wait until that person is actually killing her. That's ridiculous!

labyrinthlaziness · 03/03/2022 05:20

OP - you need to put in a complaint and also I suggest you try to see your local MP about this police failure.

The police are overstretched (a special thank you to every Tory voter for voting for police cuts) but you should be given a panic alarm again now the injunction has been broken.

Seek help from women's charities about your legal options around enforcing the injunction.

TigerLilyTail · 03/03/2022 05:21

She shouldn't have to wait until she is actually being actually physically attacked, I mean, 🤦🏼‍♀️

singlepringlenotbychoice · 03/03/2022 05:29

This is awful, however, because you are within your home address, doors locked and in possession of a working phone to contact police if your situation escalates this will not be treated as an immediate emergency. If you had been prevented from getting into your house in any way or the person was trying to force their way into your house that would have been an immediate emergency with immediate police attendance.

When the police attend ask if there are markers on your address to highlight your ongoing issues with this person. Unfortunately as police service is decimated this is what happens. You should have been contacted to advise this rather than you having to keep getting through on 101 for updates.

Do you have any security measures at your address, cctv/security alarm? Do you carry and personal attack alarms?

@Notagoodnight

She shouldn't have to wait until she is actually being actually physically attacked Doesn't mean it's a 999 emergency or that it cant wait 4-8 hours to be dealt with.

But as I said in my first post, maybe there is a far more dangerous backstory.

The problem is that these situations can get dangerous very suddenly and very quickly. The risk has already been assessed based on previous events, or OP wouldn't have been given a panic alarm. It is dangerous to underestimate these things. Women are killed by stalkers.

Sorry, you're wrong. A person breaching an injunction is a reason to call 999.

I can see how the experience you have been through could affect your perspective but you are wrong, your perspective is skewed.

I think you should stop posting your minimising messages, really. They are incorrect.

TigerLilyTail · 03/03/2022 05:43

I think the injunction and panic button does imply that there is a pretty scary backstory going on here, but I don't want this to be a pile on. I agree the police is decimated. It's a real shame it's like this though.

RewildingAmbridge · 03/03/2022 05:44

@Notagoodnight have a read between the clear links between persistent stalking and homicide. You obviously have no knowledge around this. I work in this field and OP was right to call 999. I'm not sure why you could only have the alarm floor a month that's not the case in my policing area.
Do you have measures such as CCTV/ring doorbell? Do you also have a safety plan in place should you believe he has been at your property or you find him there? For example texting a friend when you leave work and again when you get into your house, then knowing to call if they don't hear within a set time period and if no response to call police immediately?

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 03/03/2022 05:47

OP, how utterly terrifying for you and I hope the police a) arrest the stalker, b) help you feel safe and c) reissue the panic alarm.

Please ignore those posters who don’t understand how dangerous stalking can be both long term and immediate.

(@Notagoodnight, you need to do some research and stop victim shaming the OP)

AngelDelightUK · 03/03/2022 05:51

Hope they came and reassured you OP. Having been in a similar situation recently, I know how terrifying it is

I would definitely be getting some sort of camera around your front door if you haven’t

What an unpleasant comment.

OP has been stalked to the point that they've got an injunction out to help protect them. That's fucking serious and definitely requires 999.

Russell19 · 03/03/2022 05:56

Gosh that sounds scary! Hope you're ok

Buildingthefuture · 03/03/2022 05:57

My god! I’m so sorry op, how utterly terrifying for you. I hope they’ve turned up but i would kick up the most almighty stink. What is the point of going to the effort of getting an injunction if no one enforces it? I would be on to the chief Constable, my MP and definitely the press. After the awful Sarah Everard case, safe guarding of women is supposed to be a far higher priority but I think you will have to force them to be more responsive. Stalking is a dreadful crime and can escalate quickly. Do whatever is necessary to ensure you are protected.

NewtoHolland · 03/03/2022 05:59

OP have you had any support from your local domestic abuse service? Often they can help with making you home more secure and things like panic alarms if needed. So sorry that you were waiting and scared. Is there anyone who can stay with you, or somewhere else you can stay for a few days?

PinkSyCo · 03/03/2022 06:00

I'm struggling to feel sympathy. I had police called to my house recently. my son with mental health needs was smashing my head on the floor repeatedly and wouldnt stop. That to me is an emergency.

I’m sorry about what happened to you but I think it’s pretty awful of you to minimise OP’s situation like this. Her stalker could be out there contemplating petrol bombing her house or something for all she knows. Or maybe not. Maybe he’s gone home to bed. The fact is that OP’s alone, frightened and feels threatened, and we are all entitled to feel safe in our own homes don’t you think?
OP I hope the police have been out to see you by now, and I hope that they will now lock up your stalker for breaching his injunction so that you may feel safe again.

NarrowHippedVixen · 03/03/2022 06:11

Good lord Notagoodnight, what's wrong with you? What if I said about your situation, "I'm struggling to feel any sympathy for you, you chose to have children in the first place, and could have put him into care if it's that bad, you've diverted police away from crimes that actually matter". FWIW I don't think that at all, but it would be a suitably nasty and cold kick in the face, wouldn't it, when you were terrified for someone you loved's safety?

OP, how are you doing?

StrugglingIDK · 03/03/2022 06:13

should ask for the panic button again!

AugustinaGloop · 03/03/2022 06:20

OP, I hope you're OK and managed to get things resolved tonight.

sashh · 03/03/2022 06:25

Oh OP I have been in a similar situation (not a stalker but a 999 situation), they called me back the day after to see if I was OK.

Sorry I can't be much help, maybe later contact your MP.

@Notagoodnight Are you for real? Are you sure if you saw your son walking down your path you'd think, "Oh the door is locked, no problem here"?

tyoy · 03/03/2022 06:30

Doesn't mean it's a 999 emergency or that it cant wait 4-8 hours to be dealt with.

Err, but how does one know? The idea that you have an injunction against someone, carry an alarm & then they breach it because of...good intentions so don't fret is the height of stupidity!

Cablefable · 03/03/2022 06:37

Are you okay op?

PurpleBaskets · 03/03/2022 06:51

@Notagoodnight

Is there a reason you feel immediately threatened by this?

I'm struggling to feel sympathy. I had police called to my house recently. my son with mental health needs was smashing my head on the floor repeatedly and wouldnt stop. That to me is an emergency.

Unless theres a massive back story I'm scared of someone the other side of a locked door just isn't. Doesnt mean it isnt bad, it's bad I'm just not sure it's an emergency.

That to me is a court matter if hes broken an injunction but it depends on the injunction I guess.

What a truly horrible post. Op I hope you are ok?
