Would you go on/book a holiday right now?

Hi,

We have two booked for April and May. One weekend break in France and a weeks holiday in Spain.

In all honesty, I've lost all excitement and actually all I feel now is fear. If it wasn't for our dd, I'd seriously consider cancelling, but they've been looking forward to these breaks for years now.

I can't imagine that things won't have escalated a lot by then and the last thing I'd want is to be getting on a plane and being away from home.

Anyone else feeling this?

I know what you mean, I really wanted to go abroad this year too and was going to book for May time.

I still might but need to see how the land lies nearer the time. Think you should leave it for a while and evaluate when it's closer :)

Zazdar · 02/03/2022 10:18

Yes.

Zazdar · 02/03/2022 10:19

I would on/book a holiday right now.

FinallyFluid · 02/03/2022 10:21

We have two weeks booked in Spain since last year, looking forward to it immensely.

CallyfromBlakes7 · 02/03/2022 10:23

France and Spain are fine - if they are not we've got bigger problems than holidays.

If you were planning a trip to the Black Sea, well I might cancel then.

Aniita · 02/03/2022 10:23

What are you scared of?

underneaththeash · 02/03/2022 10:24

Yes, I just wouldn't fly anywhere near Eastern Europe.

SpikeySmooth · 02/03/2022 10:25

Can't be arsed to go abroad, and negotiate all the local arrangements that might still be in place. Makes me anxious. I only have a weekend glamping in England booked, nothing else at present.

tigerbear · 02/03/2022 10:33

I’m going to Mallorca at Easter.
Only concern is any COVID restrictions still in place.
If things kick off in France/Spain or other European countries, they’re likely to be kicking off in the UK too, and vice versa, so wouldn’t make much difference being here or on holiday (unless of course OP is talking about holidaying in any of the neighbouring countries to Ukraine, then that’s obviously a completely different story!)

OP, what do you mean by ‘escalated a lot’ ?
Are you seriously thinking that Russia will try to invade France, Spain etc?

Lagattolove · 02/03/2022 10:36

I’m in Spain now. Feels safe enough.

Enzbear · 02/03/2022 10:37

Yes I'm going in two weeks.

FizzyThinking · 02/03/2022 10:41

@tigerbear, no, I don't believe that, but I suppose I'm worrying about sudden attacks anywhere in the west, rather than an actual invasion attempt.

I should clarify that I have quite severe anxiety and that often causes all logic to become a bit muddy.

HELLITHURT · 02/03/2022 10:45

Yes, I am looking forward to my holiday abroad!

tigerbear · 02/03/2022 10:46

@FizzyThinking anxiety is so difficult to cope with in ‘normal’ times, so I can see why something like this would trigger it.
Hope you can control it, and have a lovely holiday.

AnchorWHAT · 02/03/2022 10:49

I am a bit worried as we are meant to be going to Hungary, (Budapest) Prague and Vienna in a couple of weeks. DH not worried unless gov travel status changes but it has taken the shine off a little for me. Also irrational guilt about going on holiday when nearby country is suffering so much.

Lyricallie · 02/03/2022 10:50

I've got Spain booked the end of April and I have no issues with going. As someone said if there were issues by then there will be bigger issues than going on holiday.

Knittingnanny2 · 02/03/2022 10:52

I’m ( supposed ) to be going to the Far East in 2 weeks to see my son and grandchildren whom I obviously haven’t seen for over 2 years. I’m beyond excited
However, I’ve jumped through hoops with paperwork etc and wouldn’t be bothering if it was a “ holiday”
I’m now living day by day with testing as my local son in law whom I spent Saturday with has covid
I’m resigned to not being able to go
I’m not usually a negative person at all but this...

Thisisit2022 · 02/03/2022 11:04

If I had a holiday already booked I'd go. I wouldn't book one at the moment though because of the rise of living costs due about to hit us (NI contributions, gas/electric, mobile phones, food etc).

Madmog · 02/03/2022 11:04

Only reason we're going abroad, is because DD is there. She reckons there's been protests against the treatment of Ukraine - she was shocked when she turned the corner into one , but there didn't look to be any trouble. She was on her own at night (20 years old) after the shock, she felt calm. The city was Berlin.

I think if you've booked something, I'd stick with it. If things escalate, the countries you're going to are likely to be on the same side - also I suspect you might be safer there than there.

Shoxfordian · 02/03/2022 11:05

I’m going to Madrid in April
Are you getting any professional help for your anxiety op ?

FinnulaFloss · 02/03/2022 11:09

I wouldn't get on a plane now to be perfectly honest. I'd drive or go by ferry to France/Spain etc but not a plane.

However I'm an anxious flyer at the best of times so totally appreciate my risk assessment is probably way off.

RedToothBrush · 02/03/2022 11:13

France and Spain?!
Just bloody go and stop being ridiculous.

If you are about to be nuked, then at least make the most of the life you have left!

FizzyThinking · 02/03/2022 11:27

@Shoxfordian, on and off, yes. It fluctuates I suppose. I'll never completely cure it, but have learnt to manage it better. Saying that, not managing it as well recently (clearly) and that was before this all kicked off.

@FinnulaFloss, same. I don't think I'd be as anxious if I was driving or going by boat, but like you, I recognise this is my anxiety talking and not logic.

@RedToothBrush, great, thanks 👍 I'll try that 🙄

Look, what EXACTLY are you worried about here? Unpick your fear.

The reality is you aren't going to be able to do much if we get nuked.

If its so other fear, work it out. But honestly, you have to keep just getting up every day and doing.

These threats don't really change much for France and Spain in real terms.

SagittariusDwarf · 02/03/2022 11:33

I'm on holiday in the Caribbean right now. Having a great time!
