I'm going to the sweet shop to buy a quarter of...

...strawberry sherbets, or Yorkshire Mixture. But they make one's mouth sore so I might have to get some toffees - mint, treacle or rum butter - to scoff afterwards.

What will you have from the sweet shop ? Don't worry about the cost, or your teeth. MNHQ is picking up the shop and dental bills for everyone.

honeycomb, cola cubes, rhubarb and custard, pineapple chunks. peanut brittle.

SirVixofVixHall · 27/02/2022 20:54

Chewing nuts, and those teeny tiny little sweets a bit like midget gems in texture, were they called floral gums ? Oh and strawberry Bonbons and another quarter of chocolate covered nougats, individually wrapped.

@LoopyDream

Please can I have some fruit crumbles. I can’t find them anywhere in real life
M&S was the last place I found them. I could feel my teeth rotting away. It was great.

@fanifanakapants

Can you still get Floral gums?
You can! I want those or midget gems but only if they are proper ones
Motherhubbardscupboard · 27/02/2022 20:54

Pear drops, rhubarb and custards or sherbet lemons. I'd love to see how big a quarter of flying saucers is, as someone above suggested! It certainly wouldn't fit into one of those little paper bags!

Nix32 · 27/02/2022 20:54

Clarnico Mint Creams

Pegasussnail · 27/02/2022 20:55

mrsmacmc · 27/02/2022 20:56

Original haribo rhubarb and custard sweets. The 'new' recipe is disgustingly waxy 🤢

Sn0tnose · 27/02/2022 20:56

Does anyone else remember a banana flavour boiled sweet? It was yellow but shaped like a segment of satsuma. I know I didn’t make them up but nobody else ever remembers them.

Lizzy1980 · 27/02/2022 20:56

I used to get these lovely sweets, they were either called teacakes or toasted teacakes. Haven’t seen them for years. Will have to track some down now

raffle · 27/02/2022 20:56

Cola cubes cough candy twists please. And I liked those silver balls that took ages to suck and had a little black dot in the middle…not sure what they were called but I’ll have some of them too please!

singlepringlenotbychoice · 27/02/2022 20:56

In order of preference

Rhubarb rock
ABC letters/cola cubes
Strawberry Bon bons (the old fashioned powdery ones)
Sweet peanuts
Raspberry millions

I miss proper sweet shops

Squiff70 · 27/02/2022 20:57

Coltsfoot rock!

CommonPrimrose · 27/02/2022 20:57

Dolly mixtures.

HippyChickMama · 27/02/2022 20:57

Gray's teacakes. I had a craving for them when heavily pregnant with ds and couldn't remember what they were called. I went into our local old fashioned sweet shop and asked if they had 'any of those flat brown sweets that look like ears' 😂 they knew what I meant though. Haven't eaten them since ds was born nearly 15 years ago. Or barley sugar, can never find it in the shops and love it

Carpediem15 · 27/02/2022 20:57

Cherry Lips and Floral Gums.
They used to be so expensive so only had them as a special treat.

Batshittery · 27/02/2022 20:57

Poor Bens please and Riley's chocolate toffee rolls (which for some mad reason, they stopped making)

CaMePlaitPas · 27/02/2022 20:58

OverByYer · 27/02/2022 20:59

BakewellGin1 · 27/02/2022 20:59

Chewing Nuts
Bon Bons

Bloodybridget · 27/02/2022 20:59

Pontefract cakes or liquorice cutting. That's all I'd want now. But when I was a kid I loved pear drops, pineapple chunks, Tom Thumb drops, chocolate eclairs and aniseed balls. And mint toffoes.
