Would you travel to Europe now?

ItsDisneyBitch · 27/02/2022 20:00

I’m due to travel for work in two weeks time. Over to France for meetings.

Can I refuse to travel? Would you travel now? It’s a three day trip.

Poetrypatty · 27/02/2022 20:02

Yes I would. Anyway, two weeks is a long time in the scheme of how fast things are going at the moment, so I'd probably see how I felt a couple of days before if I was anxious.

HijadelaLuna · 27/02/2022 20:02

I think you will find you already are in Europe …

LadyLolaRuben · 27/02/2022 20:04

France is a stable country, is just next door and far from the current war. Yes I'd go

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/02/2022 20:05

I’d travel to France. It’s very close to home.

ItsDisneyBitch · 27/02/2022 20:05

Thank you. I guess If things escalate before then, choice will be taken out of my hands.

biggreenhouse · 27/02/2022 20:05

France should be ok but within another week it's going to be really clear if this has escalated or pretty much done, so decide closer to the time.

ItsDisneyBitch · 27/02/2022 20:06

I was wondering more if I was overly anxious my company could make me go. Given I went into the office the entire time during pandemic answer is probably yes.

Cakelover17 · 27/02/2022 20:08

Unless something changes drastically why wouldn’t you go? You are already in Europe, most of France isn’t significantly closed to Ukraine than we are, and they are as stable as we are right now.

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 27/02/2022 20:09

We are part of Europe, so I really don't see what is the difference.
If Europe become unsafe, I really don't think UK would be any different from France.

TravellingFrom · 27/02/2022 20:10

Not an issue at all.
Go for it.
Amd enjoy the trip

Poetrypatty · 27/02/2022 20:12

I was thinking maybe OP was anxious to be away from dcs or something like that. But given all of this has only been going on a few days, it's really too early to say where we'll be in two weeks. If it was me and I had doubts I'd just decide say 2 or 3 days before and try not to worry about it for now.

ItsDisneyBitch · 27/02/2022 20:13

I am a bit anxious to be away from the kids. Particularly as one of them has ASD and gets very anxious.

OP posts:
Crinkle77 · 27/02/2022 20:16

Yes

TheLeadbetterLife · 27/02/2022 20:16

What? Is this really how people in the U.K. view the situation? France is no closer to Ukraine than you are. I’m going to Germany on Wednesday and haven’t given it a second thought.

Poetrypatty · 27/02/2022 20:16

That's understandable Flowers Stressful times.

Lesperance · 27/02/2022 20:42

If anything, I think people in France are panicking a bit less than people in the UK seem to be. Nobody here has said 'what's going to happen to us?' to me so far, and yet it's all I'm seeing on mumsnet. I get that mumsnet does not represent the whole UK, but honestly, France does not feel any different than it did last Wednesday. There have been some gatherings to support Ukraine and some public buildings are flying the Ukrainian flag. Obviously it's all over the news, but life is totally normal here.

Wallywobbles · 27/02/2022 20:42

Crazy has come to stay.

Right now I'd rather be in France than the UK. At least our president isn't such a fucking liability.

1forAll74 · 27/02/2022 20:44

No, when you think about some things that have happened on aircraft, where terrorists have managed to get on them from other countires, somehow managed to get thrrough customs etc, and wouldn't think twice about blowing a plane up, with some hatred about another country or other. Planes have been hijacked several times over the years.

Its may just be me talking, as I am paranoid about flying anyway.

No it is not. OP is more anxious than average I would say (in the kindest possible way). Wouldn't even cross my mind not to travel right now.
ItsDisneyBitch · 27/02/2022 20:47

I’m anxious, because all through bloody covid I went into the office and the whole office was pretending there wasn’t an outside world.

I’m anxious because my daughter has ASD and is a mess at the moment. I’ve posted on here about her.

Yes I would. I am travelling to Poland for work tomorrow. I am not anxious. I feel anxious for the people on Ukraine.

GallopingHighRoad · 27/02/2022 20:49

I would have no problems in flying anywhere in Europe.

Poetrypatty · 27/02/2022 20:50

Tbf you are talking about terrorism which is unrelated. The OP is concerned about being away from her dcs on a work trip, presumably because everyone is stressed out by the crazy Putin.

It's not a UK thing in general. Although no doubt our government doesn't reassure people so that probably doesn't help.

Poetrypatty · 27/02/2022 20:51

OP is changing jobs an option? Doesn't sound like you feel well treated there.

miltonj · 27/02/2022 20:51

I live in a different European country. I feel no more in danger here than I would if I were in the UK. In fact maybe I feel more safe. You'll be fine. You're kids will be fine too, although I know it's hard leaving them especially when extra needs are involved.
