As above

OP posts:
otille · 12/03/2022 06:47

I'd be more interested in how the Russian citizen is finding daily life now that sanctions are beginning to bite.
@Amrapaali

Russian here. Do you know what it feels like to be Russian right now? Like it's 1941 and I'm both a Jew and a German. The world hates me (German) and wants me dead/wiped out from this earth (Jew).

Why were no sanctions on all brits and Americans when they illegally invaded Iraq?

Also we've been through 1995 when we had to queue for a bag of sugar, had empty shelves in the shops etc. We've been through this before we'll get through this again. Yes sanctions are very unnerving, but we're trying to get through them with humour and 'it'll be all figured out' attitude. Smile

otille · 12/03/2022 06:48

Am I right to think that most Russians are not able to access 'unfiltered' social media and propaganda? So they have no idea what is going on?? @SpikyJugs

Not true. We have the same access as everyone else.

otille · 12/03/2022 07:34

@MagicFox I'm sorry I don't think I (or 99.99% of people) know enough truth to make a conclusion on the events.
I don't think enough people know the truth on 9/11 either.

I prefer to ask questions rather than state non-factual opinions. Hence my question to Brits still stands: 'How come there were no sanctions on all Brits and Americans when they illegally invaded Iraq?'

Sorry if it's coming across as pushy, I am genuinely interested and not blaming anyone here.

Except for Facebook and Twitter. Oh, and a free press. And the threat of 15 years in prison for “fake news”. But other than that.

There’s this funny thing happening on Mumsnet at the mo, of new posters who have no posting history but strong views about Russia and Ukraine. Isn’t it funny.

@TheWayTheLightFalls

I've name changed, been on here since 2014 Grin why are you so angry?

TheWayTheLightFalls · 12/03/2022 08:43

I’m not angry ot, but sadly your behaviour fits a certain pattern. I have family and friends in Russia. None have access to mainstream media now. Facebook is banned, Twitter is banned. They are being stopped on the street and having their phones searched. And none of them are coming up with 9/11 whataboutery, funnily enough. You may be absolutely genuine but man you don’t look it.

otille · 12/03/2022 08:46

They are being stopped on the street and having their phones searched.
@TheWayTheLightFalls
I have not heard of a single person being objected to this. People/families would talk about it amongst themselves if it happened.
I'm sorry this is really not true.

otille · 12/03/2022 08:48

And none of them are coming up with 9/11 whataboutery.

Hun! You have sent me an article linking Russia to 9/11 so I said I don't think i know enough truth to comment on both events!
OP I know f** all about 9/11 (I don't trust the media so reading news doesn't count) so that's why I said I won't comment on it. How did that get turned into me and whataboutery Grin

MagicFox · 12/03/2022 08:50

@otille All I know is that the scales have fallen from my eyes and I'm suddenly waking up to the world that we live in, a world where ordinary people suffer on both sides because of other men's agendas and their love of power

otille · 12/03/2022 08:53

@MagicFox same. The more I think about it the more depressing it all seems.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 12/03/2022 08:53

Yeah…

I don't think enough people know the truth on 9/11 either.

I prefer to ask questions rather than state non-factual opinions. Hence my question to Brits still stands: 'How come there were no sanctions on all Brits and Americans when they illegally invaded Iraq?'

Anyway, we now have your very meagre posting history, dodgy views and slightly odd use of language, so I’ll stop replying and let everyone else reading draw their own conclusions.

Bluebellsunderthetrees · 12/03/2022 08:55

@Anoooshka Russia invaded Crimea and is illegally occupying it. That's why the water supply was cut off.

What about the people who have been living in Crimea for eight years with no water and the worst drought in history? And do they want to be Russian? Some in the at programme said they did Or don't you care?

What about the 1 million+ caught between the abusive Ukraine security services and the rebels? Did you care when their children where killed or blown up by army mines?

Sadly most importantly we can't trust what we hear when the fact is two Ukrainians are shot dead by the Ukrainian army over a mild verbal disagreement about Russia (pre the invasion) I wonder what those people really do think.

LittleBearPad · 12/03/2022 09:00

I am enjoying your Putin emoji across the threads. Why is he green though?

New here?

Papertyger · 12/03/2022 09:01

The utter paranoia on here needs to calm down it really does.

It's absurd to think right now Putin is directly targeting Mumsnet!
I think, as important as some people think MN is in the wider world, he has other targets.

otille · 12/03/2022 09:02

'Your dodgy views and slightly odd use of language*.'
*
It's not my first language, I do try my best to write properly, sorry.

Papertyger · 12/03/2022 09:06

The way the light fall's.

Last week when things were banned someone filmed armed police and trucks in Moscow or st Petersburg. The filmer said they still have access to sm .
That was When they were supposed to be having issues.
So now other formats have been banned maybe that has changed but with the internet, it's a slippery fish hard to pin down. It doesn't surprise me if they have a work around

Papertyger · 12/03/2022 09:09

English is my first language and I've been accused of being a Russian bot.
I've not expressed a single word in support of Putin or this wicked assault and slaughter in Ukraine.

It's insane and it needs to stop.

If you don't like a posters views, challenge them polity or ignore.

It's also creeping xenophobia trying to embarrass posters for poor English.

AtomicBlondeRose · 12/03/2022 09:13

Mumsnet is one of the busiest and most-visited message boards in the UK, it’s not stupid to think there are trolls/bots here at all.

otille · 12/03/2022 09:16

@AtomicBlondeRose ok please can you (and everyone) report me to mumsnet for being a bot then? My bet is they will comment 'we have reviewed this poster and they seem genuine and posting since 2014.'

Amrapaali · 12/03/2022 09:17

100% agree with this.

Also very way about the view MN is crawling with Russian trolls/ bots. It is an amazing, supportive forum but really if Russia wants to spread disinformation and trigger social contagion, Facebook and Twitter are where they will go. More prolific, more chances of forwarding and sharing things, retweets etc..

Amrapaali · 12/03/2022 09:19

@LittleBearPad

New here?

Yes.

If you could kindly explain why he is green...

Papertyger · 12/03/2022 09:20

But it's stupid to Keep leveling the claim at anyone and everyone.

I've not said a single word in support of this.
I don't agree with ottille at all.
I don't agree with the posters trying to push the Ukraine neo nazi angle so I ignore them.

I've been called a bot.
Some people really need to rest from Mumsnet.
Taking names,doing background searches!

What are you afraid of? Let's say someone is a Russian bot... what's the worst that can happen? Do you think they Will brain wash us all and suddenly russian visa application will jump with a disproportionate amount of applications from people who admit to being mumsnetters?

Perime · 12/03/2022 09:30

Not true. We have the same access as everyone else.

Not true. However, you can use a vpn to get access if you can afford it.
Dasher789 · 12/03/2022 09:33

You can kind of compare it to covid here. In 2020, the government told us we were going into lock down for the first time in all of our lives, we were living under a raging pandemic that none of us were safe from, we must go out only for essentials, not leave your local area or be arrested and do not visit older relatives, they could die. For the majority of us, we don't have any medical expertise to know whether this is true or not but the government told us as did the media outlets. Even medical professions I question how much they really no to be able to form an educated oposition. Iv worked in my field of employment for 10 years but if something new came out I couldn't claim to have much knowledge on it. As the pandemic has gone on, we have been told to take multiple vaccines, wear a mask, work from home etc. We have daily reports of death figures. A minority of people refuse the vaccine, they watch interviews where people denounce the virus, they post and read online articles supporting their views and they attend protests. Most people think they are nuts - and this has all happened and been accepted in 2 years.

Imagine growing up under Putin's regime. Your whole life could have been under his version of the truth. I would completely expect most Russians - particularly in Russia, to support the war. The ones attending the protests and speaking out are surely the equivalent of the covid anti vax brigade.
