Try Semantle.

It's like Wordle in that you need to guess the word of the day, but works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, ysterday's word was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

I'm currently 840 words away with a similarity of 47%. I started at under 2%.

Anybody else attempting it?

Got it in 24, went straight in at 988 after 21 guesses

Heart is 750 and is a good clue (in my opinion)

Weirdly the correct word actually nestles in just below 995.

I solved Semantle #32 in 42 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 8.21. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #31. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 8.39. semantle.novalis.org/

I clearly do not have the hang of this @brac and surely must have gone off at a tangent!

I solved Semantle #32 in 14 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 36.61. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #9. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 71.74 (997/1000).

Ooh I like it! I solved it in 52 guesses. Got very sidetracked by sperm and went down a whole sex route before getting back on track

When this thread fills up we can always start a hints and strategy thread? Or I can start one now if people feel the hints are too heavy here (I'm getting the impression only one person does though).

My feeling is it's not spoilery if you refer to it as word XXX since nobody knows what that word is unless they are also stuck exactly there. Spoilery to me would be saying "I'm sensing a very musical theme today" (this does not relate to today's) but what would be ideal would be being able to do spoiler tags like on reddit, then people can choose to look or not.

As kind people gave me hints yesterday and today and I've actually solved it, feel free to PM me for a hint!

Well I didn't notice any of the hints on here. I've just solved it - jumped from 988 to the word in one guess and I still don't get the hints 🤪😆

Closest I've got so far is 38.7 when I had the word Diplomat and the chosen word was spy. Gave up after much gnashing of teeth. Very hard!!

I don't open the thread until im either stuck or finished in case I get influenced by the discussion like today implying it's gloomy. I don't think that type of discussion is a proper hint though because there's so many ways gloomy can be interpreted and I like seeing how people have worked it out. I look forward to reading after Ive solved or to approach a different way by picking up on what other people are doing.

My dd does the opposite to me and follows the thread when it's quiet at college before she's home and able to play on an evening, and the 750 word is actually named on the thread a few hours ago and it's meant my dd got it in ten attempts because she'd seen that post on the thread on the bus home before she played. She isn't a MNer so I said tough shit
