Pissed watching the Royle Family

It's my first day off work in 11 days so I'm on my arse on the sofa.

In my sloth lying about im watching the Royle Family, the wedding episode.

Ah, it's making me daft and sentimental. I've had a few merlots.

Denise is in the house with Jim waiting to leave. I know it's a daft show but I get a bit teary at it.

My favourite episode was when Nana’s friend Elsie died and Jim spent the evening ribbing her about her willingness to take Elsie’s bacon, Senekot etc.After another request, he finally snaps and shouts

“my friend Elsie, my arse! You just want her stuff. You’re bloody glad she’s dead”
Nana: Jim! Don’t speak ill of the dead!
Jim: I’m not! I’m speaking ill of you, the living bloody dead!

Priceless

I love the Royle Family, it is such a well-observed show, full of heart and warmth. It's just perfect.

The episode with Denise in labour always get me, and I've only been able to watch the Queen of Sheba twice because it's just so sad. Wonderful acting.

I think my favourite episode is Elsie's funeral when Jim gets on the baby monitor at the end. "Leave my stuff alone you robbing old git!", and they all just roar with laughter. So brilliant.

@nancybotwinbloom

If your a crier like me op you should watch afterlife if you haven't already. Has you laughing and crying in equal amounts.
Ah no, not a fan. I find it too relentlessly sad, and the comedy seems 'teenage' to me - it's just using the word cunt or doing outrageous stuff.

Huge Gervais fan though, I love The Office and Extras. But I think he needs Stephen Merchant to add the lightness, his solo shows are quite dark. I do enjoy his stand-up.

This thread just made me rewatch the whole first series! Now crying at Denise about to leave for her wedding.

Great thread!

I'm an 'ard bastard but that Queen of Sheba episode floors me, can't watch it. I agree with a previous poster about the scene where Barbara is doing her mums hair, it's very touching.

Jim and twiggy doing the decorating

Love it so wonderful ! Especially the conversations between Barbara and nana 'I'll tell you who has died' always reminds me of me and my lovely mum.

Itwasntmeright · 25/02/2022 22:21

The queen of Sheba absolutely ruins me. Me and DS watched it before Christmas, we were both blubbing like babies. I almost made it to the end and thought I’d be all right, but no, it gets me every single time.

Anybody know where I can watch Early Doors? I watched it when it was shown on BBC2 originally but I’ve never seen it since.

BusinessMindThoughts · 25/02/2022 22:23

My dh didn't believe it was any good so we had a great time watching them all and he admitted I was right.
"I'll eat any old shite, Barb"

@Juno22

Apart from the episodes talked about like Queen of Sheba and when Mary died, one of my favourite moments was when the family gave Jim a Sky Tv subscription for Christmas. Their delight at giving him the envelope and his reaction was priceless.
This really makes me smile because my dh got Sky as a present when he was a kid Grin
