Does anyone actually know anyone with a bunker (and a plan to get there)?

I’d just be interested. I don’t think my shed’ll cut the mustard.

I remember a former No 10 director of comms saying they show you where the PM’ll go in the event of emergency stuff (I can’t actually remember if she said nuclear war) and that Cherie Blair had wanted it redecorated. I wonder if Carrie J has asked the same! Grin

Think my local Council has one. Can't remember where it is though and not sure I'm in the VIP list to get in Hmm

Would prefer to know where to get hold of cyanide tablets
that's not a pleasant way to go.

Presumably the world will be more Swiss after the conflict.

Zilla1 · 24/02/2022 23:34

And Korean?

gogohm · 24/02/2022 23:36

There's a bunker near here, popular with the local teens - it's full of joint ends and cider cans

And American prepper and tech oligarch though suspect the oligarchs might struggle with managing their troops post conflict when money has no value and the staff have the guns. Did hear some were looking at electric shock collars to try and have control when being a billionaire doesn't count for as much.

Vaguely recall in some circumstances, the most dangerous radiation contamination is surprisingly short-lived.

There are faster, and less unpleasant ways, to go. I have looked them up and am ready.

I've been in one, and know of a few others (through mine /DH work). I'd rather take my chances above ground!!

Suspect the owners of some of the sub basements dug in Belgravia might be thinking about repurposing, at least for short-term occupation, if they are in the UK at the moment.

We have a world war 2 era bunker in our communal garden but it's stuffed full of bikes! Could go to a tube station I suppose

ThomasinaGallico · 25/02/2022 00:06

Urgh. Life in a bunker makes lockdown look like three weeks on a Caribbean beach holiday.

PineappleHouseUnderTheSea · 25/02/2022 00:27

Read Children Of The Dust - you need more than just a bunker Sad

OnGoldenPond · 25/02/2022 00:30

I have a friend who lives on the coast and has an old Anderson shelter in her garden. I'd better hightail it down there!

AnnesBrokenSlate · 25/02/2022 00:45

I can't believe I didn't know about Switzerland's compulsory bunkers Shock

merrymelodies · 25/02/2022 01:10

We've always had bunkers in our homes in Switzerland. It's the law. You're supposed to keep them well stocked too. Not that we ever did.

toomuchlaundry · 25/02/2022 01:30

My mum had a shelter in their garden during WWII. However, the neighbours used it when there was an air raid, so she and her mum had to sit under the kitchen table instead

Remember watching the play When the Wind Blows as a teenager, and sobbing.

Think I would want to go as quickly as possible

riotlady · 25/02/2022 11:45

Had totally forgotten about Children of the Dust until people mentioned it in this thread- that book traumatised me a bit when I was a kid!
