Anyone finding the tone of this really quite terrifying...

I’m not one to get myself in a tizz over sensationalised news but this is starting to feel very different!

We have a house near live near a RAF airport we use for holidays etc, and the fighter jets, apache helicopters and activity has been increased for weeks and weeks, given the build up from the US one has to imagine that there are preparations being made. Perhaps worst case scenario stuff, but we were surprised it felt like we were already at war given the volume. I have never seen anything like it.

neveradullmoment99 · 24/02/2022 14:11

@Horological

it is a catastrophe for the Ukrainian people and very worrying for the rest of Europe. I can't help thinking that for Johnson it's a giant opportunity to distract attention from his sleazy leadership and potentially a Churchillian moment (in his dreams).
Oh me too..

@Jesus has had her username for years. It came from an hysterically funny thread of ages ago. I am not entirely sure where your objection is tbh.

@Alexandra2001

I feel like it's the end of life as we know it. God I hope I'm being dramatic

Yes you are, he walked into Crimea and Georgia and we didn't end up with Nuclear war.

The main thing to do now is boost defences in nato countries, as for Boris? do something about Russian influence and money on our politics, too late for sanctions, you blew that.

But did he threaten it then? He has come out and threatened it. He has spoken about how Russia has nuclear powers that exceed most other countries. About how if he needs to he will go there. About how no one wants it, he doesn't want it either, but he will do it.

He didn't do that with Crimea? Or Georgia? Not that I can see. You can't watch a world leader threaten nuclear warfare and judge people for being scared. I'm clueless, I have no idea what will happen and no power to change it, I'm just saying that worst case scenario is looking more likely than I'd like it to

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 14:16

I am hoping Ukraine have planned well and are ready, they are going to beat the Russian monsters! Vietnam was supposedly the weaker one, and look at what happened there.

DinnoWoman · 24/02/2022 14:17

I think a pp is implying that there is a poster on here who is not the actual son of God and doesn't drive a can full of brassicas. Surely this is not the case?

beguilingeyes · 24/02/2022 14:17

"Like many in the UK I vote Tory (Labour are has beens and have not won since 2005 so anyone Labour on this thread - don't assume everyone agrees with you).
However this issue is across party lines and an issue as to what we do.*

Has-beens?! This isn't the Brit Awards you know.

BJ was elected on a wave of populist Brexit Mania. He's still flogging that horse now..as that's all he's got.

I don't think it will be possible to take the cities, looking at the way it is set up there. They would have to fight door to door and Russia would likely lose in that scenario.

On that note I am surprised nobody has mentioned Alex Salmond and the Russian influence on the independence referendum, or is that forgotten because he's not an Evil Tory (tm)? He's still broadcasting on RT, is that OK?

no it's absolutely not okay. But I can't say I'm surprised.

I'm glad we have an expert military strategist on hand, now that we no longer have the lord Christ almighty.

What’s to stop Ukraine being divided into East (goes back to mother Russia) and West Ukraine (more European-leaning)? Is it really worth a single death?

Well frankly I am quite disappointed that Jesus is not thus.

Two I would say, because the headscrewed person seems to be an expert too.
KerryWeaver · 24/02/2022 14:25

Russian money financed Brexit and the rise of Boris Johnson.

The financial centres of London are now more dependent than ever on Russian money. Britain will take minimal action at best.

Putin is simply delighted that his man is in residence in Number 10. It really has worked out brilliantly for him.

I think the point is, is this where it stops?

The million dollar question appears to be: Is Putin...

a) a unhinged meglomaniac who is striving to reunit all of the USSR and/or achieve world domination

OR

b) a misunderstood leader who is genuinely worried and provoked by the advancement of NATO to the East

I think the former, but then I suppose I would say that - having only ever seen the news from this side of the fence.

SockFluffInTheBath · 24/02/2022 14:26

@NotQuiteHere possibly both. From what I’ve read the country is already politically divided along this line.

jgw1 · 24/02/2022 14:26

Me too. Thinking that I was corresponding with Jesus on here had quite restored my faith.
