Anyone finding the tone of this really quite terrifying...

I’m not one to get myself in a tizz over sensationalised news but this is starting to feel very different!

OP posts:

The posters here scoffing at Conscription are the same people who scoffed at the idea the UK would ever DARE put their people into lockdown or make them wear masks.
What is the motivation for these posts.

What is Starmer asking for when he says sacrifice

Tealightsandd · 24/02/2022 17:14

Perhaps they just need to learn to 'live with' the 'mild' invasion?

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 24/02/2022 17:15

@Covidworries

But if people have real hand to mouth life which is with rising costs going to become even worse... joining up to have both eat and heat is potentially going to appeal to some
Pity the Russian soldiers. They're apparently experiencing food shortages as they're not receiving enough rations. Not sure hungry (and presumably angry) troops is the way to go when you're declaring war. It also makes them more dangerous for the Ukranians too as they're most likely going to end up stealing food.
Jem57 · 24/02/2022 17:15

Why worry about something you absolutely have no control over.
I am ex Army maybe that’s why.

Chocolattay · 24/02/2022 17:15

Russia invading Ukraine is not comparable to long fucking Covid.

Alexandra2001 · 24/02/2022 17:16

Just listening to Boris and then Kier, Kier sounds like a PM, Boris like an idiot.

Tealightsandd · 24/02/2022 17:18

Why not? We're told we must protect lives. Whose?

Incidentally, what is the current Covid situation like in Ukraine and Russia?

I took it to mean higher prices for consumers?
speakingofart · 24/02/2022 17:19

@Tealightsandd

Presumably, of course, we only need to protect Ukrainians who are under 40 and have no underlying conditions.... Which, with Long Covid damage, will be increasingly few.
I know you’re only capable of posting about one thing but give it a rest. There are tanks rolling through Europe and your obsession with long Covid just makes you look even more odd today than usual.
Seedandyarn · 24/02/2022 17:21

I'm going to save this thread. It will be interesting to come back in 2 years time. Speak to you then. Grin

Protests breaking out in Moscow against Putin's invasion of Ukraine. 442 detained in 39 cities according to ovd/info a group that monitors them

Tealightsandd · 24/02/2022 17:22

Odder still to profess concern over potential loss of life or disablity....but only if caused by one particular threat. It's ok, apparently, if it's a deadly and disabling disease. Ok then.

Chocolattay · 24/02/2022 17:23

@speakingofart.

I’m surprised she’s not brought up London’s homeless yet.

Truly brave.

Seedandyarn · 24/02/2022 17:24

@leopooh to point out the same patterns in behaviour.

I truly hope I am wrong, war is evil, power corrupts and the victims on both sides are the ordinary folk. But that doesn't change what is obvious. If this all blows over in a few weeks months I will be delighted.

Good point. The public health housing and homelessness emergency is indeed a major humanitarian disaster.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 24/02/2022 17:26

Johnson has really got the taste for 'addressing the nation', hasn't he? Shame he can't be Churchillian in any other way.

BiscuitLover3678 · 24/02/2022 17:26

After covid literally nothing surprises me anymore. Maybe that’s a good thing.

It’s the last century repeating itself. Mark my words china is next.

Tealightsandd · 24/02/2022 17:26

But clearly (at least according to some on this thread) some lives matter more than others. How did you decide, out of interest, whose life is worth fighting for?

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 17:28

It is wonderful to hear all the leaders unite, I know it shouldn't take this much, but honestly made my eyes fill with tears - we need to all work together to drive out this darkness.

Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 17:30

I've just seen a picture of two allegedly russian soldiers captured.

One was 19 And both looked young and pitifulSad

This may actually be Putin's down fall.
I'm wondering if it's a move to bump up oil prices in a world turning electric? The last hurrah??

Tealightsandd · 24/02/2022 17:30

The reality is that both issues are a worry. Ukraine and Covid. Ignoring the latter won't make it go away - and it will impact on the former.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 17:32

I don't how Putin can send the children of Russia into such a pointless, meaningless war. How are their mothers even going to find any comfort from their senseless deaths is beyond me.

Tigersonvaseline · 24/02/2022 17:33

They won't keep they will be absolutely livid And raging.
