If the Russian soldiers choose to invade an innocent nation and are happy to bomb civilian areas without a thought of the women, children and babies that are being killed right now what else can they expect??

If they refused they would be jailed. Or shot. Russia is run by an autocrat who cares nothing for human rights, and who happily murders dissenters on foreign soil at will, remember? Do you think an 18 year old Russian conscript has the ability to just refuse ?

This is why China made the announcement, a nuclear plant is a massive problem for everyone.

I meant they'd have a hard time telling a 21 year old British civilian that they'd have to take up arms.

Russia is clearly a whole other kettle of fish. They can't just say no.

I think the word with those in the know is that conscription will be making its way back, rumoured to be those between 18 and 25 although assurances are being drawn up that it will begin with those aged 20-25.

An announcement will probably be made at the end of next week unless a miracle happens. It is going to be a huge administrative task but an army is needed as soon as possible.

Only on mumsnet would people think masks to prevent covid are the devils work and the poor youngsters shouldnt be made to wear them, whilst believing that we could conscript the same young people to go and fight.

I am 100% going to support Ukraine to defend itself. I am sorry that Russia is such a god awful place that it would force a poor teen to go to war, but really that says everything about Russia and the change that is needed there. It is inhumane at every level.

Do you think it is acceptable for Russian soldiers to be sent to war with an incinerator trundling behind them??? They won't even be sent home if they are killed in action. So please spare me. We have no business interfering with the Ukraine. It only became independent from Russia in 1991 and they want it back. Leave them to it, it’s not our war and there is no fucking way the U.K. could win any war against Russia anyway. We are blinded by past glories if we think our military power can match Russia.

And why make a stand with Ukraine? Putin took back the Crimea without us so much as making a whimper. Why the double standard?

I think many mothers give a fuck what he says because he knows what has been discussed and has been put forward to give the plan it's first 'soft' introduction to the public. Get people used to the idea.
