Anyone finding the tone of this really quite terrifying...

I’m not one to get myself in a tizz over sensationalised news but this is starting to feel very different!

I think we are a little like scrappy do, being held back by scooby.

We need to do what we can like every small nation and let the big boys deal either this.

The actual limits of what we can do are teeny compared to the might of the EU.

jgw1 · 24/02/2022 15:02
@jgw1 I'm actually referring to the Minsk agreement more recently and Yalta before that when the victors at the end of WW2 carved up the world so to speak. It was agreed after WW2 and after the formation of NATO that the West would not expand its sphere of influence beyond Western Europe under any circumstances and so Russia withdrew from its 'occupation' of Eastern Europe only for the West to promptly renege on that promise and come right to Russia's front door. How would the US react if Russian troops were stationed in Mexico or Cuba for example? Remember the Cuban missile crisis? I don't condone Russia's actions by any means but they've been watching and waiting, took notes from the unlawful invasions of Iraq and Syria and the catastrophic bombing of Libya, and are playing the same game. Ukraine's President is inexperienced in the political game and should never have said he wanted to join NATO. That was the red rag to a bull, extreme provocation. Having said that all sides need to down weapons and come to the negotiation table, as the human cost in any war is totally unacceptable.
What say you about Zelenskyy's predecessor attending the Nato Summit in Wales in 2014?

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 15:02

From breaking news it look like Ukraine is doing rather well !!!! Go Ukraine!!!!! xxxx

Suttonmother · 24/02/2022 15:03

Johnson talk big and act small. Considering his close ties with dubious Russian donors, he won't bite the hand that feeds him.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 15:04

Ukraine is holding many areas!!!!!!

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 24/02/2022 15:04

Russia's economy is surprisingly puny but Putin and co keep their many billions overseas. If the West wants to really hurt them it has the power to do that by seizing assets. Properly seizing them, not making wimpy gestures.

MistOverTheDowns · 24/02/2022 15:04

Ukraine is NOT a NATO member.

The UK has the third biggest military in Europe after Russia and France.
Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 15:05

It appears that Ukraine have shot down many Russian fighter jets and are holding most areas. We are 100% behind you Ukraine!!

They should definitely seize Putin's cronies properties in London.

@TheReluctantPhoenix

This is balm from above for Boris.

He is an impotent (in the World power, not sexual sense!) fool, who has not even rebuked his defence minister for making an arse of himself.

Yes, we have laid down the red carpet for Russian oligarchs, and can now take it away, but we can't do much else.

We should leave the US, NATO (of which we are a part) and the EU to deal with the problem, and take several steps back.

Frankly, we need to think of what we want and allow Russia and Putin a way back. We don't want a world economic collapse and to enter a new cold war for the next 70 years (or worse...the last hot war).

Our line in the sand is not Ukraine but the other side of it. Of course, if Putin goes there, all bets are off.

Hmm

Fucking Covid, why didn't it get people like Putin rather than the good ones.

I have to say I thought perhaps I had turned up on a football thread.
Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 15:12

I am most definitely delighted for Ukraine. If the Russians invade and kill innocent people they can expect to be blown out of the sky.

I am 100% behind Ukraine, and I stand by their right to defend themselves.

Putin has to be stopped.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 24/02/2022 15:12

Well Putin is reportedly suffering some health issues himself, although not Covid related. He doesn't look great in recent footage. Pale and puffy.

DuncinToffee · 24/02/2022 15:12

No we football fans are better than that.

Only just, mind Wink

Postdatedpandemic · 24/02/2022 15:13

@Keepyourheadscrewedon

Err I think you mean the US post you are getting confused about how the last world war ended.
No confused at all.

Have you never found out what happened?

Off the top of your head, who do you think liberated Auschwitz?

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 15:14

Lets hope it is swift miss and then perhaps some order can come out of Russia.

Ukraine is holding their own. I wish them all the best. The whole world stands with Ukraine.

@Keepyourheadscrewedon

Starmer is actually giving an exceptional speech as well on Sky news.
Labour supporter or not the one thing we can say about Kier is he speaks clearly and with authority.

It's such a shame Boris won't work with him like he wouldn't through covid.

Next weds PMQs are so risky - with Boris flaming the situation by saying something stupid just to win his imaginary fight he has to diss Labour at every opportunity.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 15:15

Maybe his liver is giving out, his face is very very swollen and sometimes a sign of liver failure/cancer.

Keepyourheadscrewedon · 24/02/2022 15:16

This is much more serious than any other debate, we will see a change of tone next week of that I am sure itsgettingweird love your user name by the way Grin

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 24/02/2022 15:17

I am most definitely delighted for Ukraine.

Hmm Again... It is not a football match. They are fighting back because they have no choice.
