Americans won't be happy with today's Wordle

Very surprised that this particular word (very common for us Brits but never heard in the US, and I've lived in major US cities for years) was chosen for Wordle 250. Especially after NYT bought Wordle, I thought they'd only select words familiar to Americans. I suppose now we can get our comeuppance for 'favor' and 'honor'. Grin

I thought so too. Makes up for 'Favor'.

thistimelastweek · 24/02/2022 05:19

My very thought too!

4th attempt and hesitated because its so un-American.

Associatepeggy · 24/02/2022 05:23

I thought that same. And did hesitate too. Was very surprised.

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 24/02/2022 05:45

Also hesitated. Was on line 6, and sat on it for ages but nothing else would fit!

YanTanTetheraPetheraPimp · 24/02/2022 05:49

It’s set by the New York Times so I can’t imagine them being too upset!

AFIK · 24/02/2022 05:59

Haha I had just left it for now cos I thought “no way could it be that word” … read this thread and thought ok it could… correct!

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 24/02/2022 06:10

Maybe it means something different there?

Polyanthus2 · 24/02/2022 06:15

Maybe the nyt version is different in both countries as it would be hard to always find something spelled the same in both countries imv.

SNUG2022 · 24/02/2022 06:21

I thought that immediately! I nearly didn't go with it, cos I thought, no way! Grin

devildeepbluesea · 24/02/2022 06:23

Yeah I was surprised. Took 5 guesses because I didn’t think they’d use it!

idiotfacelicker · 24/02/2022 06:25

Glad to see this thread! I wasted a guess because I assumed they wouldn't use this word. Then I tried it because there wasn't much else. Lesson learned I guess but after all the US spelling fiascos this answer seemed really unlikely.

OverByYer · 24/02/2022 06:26

Ha I got it in 3 but hesitated for the same reason!

bangaverage · 24/02/2022 06:27

Makes up for the recent 'humor' debacle.

Libertybear80 · 24/02/2022 06:28

Got it in two.

Universe1969 · 24/02/2022 06:28

Thought that too. It’s not in their vocabulary. Unless they watched croc Dundee

For anyone who is curious.

Polyanthus2 · 24/02/2022 06:42

Someone in our group seems to get everything in 2 or 3?
As the word varies and you have no idea what it is, how can someone always be lucky with the first or second word they try?
Mind you, they haven't posted today so maybe they only post on good results.
I think I've done it in 2 once and in 3 a handful of times. I would have guessed that is normal. I don't use any other help to get to the answer, except sometimes pen and paper.

Fridafever · 24/02/2022 06:49

Omg I just got it in one from your clue! First time ever

Ginandplatonic · 24/02/2022 06:53

That’s odd. I’m in Australia and I’ve just done number 250 - it was not the word in that link above. Although that word is well recognised here. Grin

Sunnysidegold · 24/02/2022 06:53

I think your title gives it away! I had * and then guessed the answer because I was thinking of words Americans might not know.

Traumdeuter · 24/02/2022 06:55

Got it in three for the first time in a few days!

theculture · 24/02/2022 06:57

ThirdElephant

Thanks - nice link!

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 24/02/2022 07:52

I also got it in three. I was lucky with my first word and second word was close.

lemoncrisp · 24/02/2022 08:13

I got it in three but hesitated because it seemed so unlikely esp after the American spellings of flavor and humor.

LoopyDream · 24/02/2022 08:15

I’m sat here still staring at it after try 3, I just can’t get my brain in gear today
