I used my old one so much that I pressed the mesh bit right out. It wasn't easy to clean so I am looking for a sturdy press which is easy to clean. Any recommendations? Thanks.

I have one from ikea where the mesh/grid thing comes completely out - much easier to clean

ApolloandDaphne · 23/02/2022 18:33

That sounds good but I am nowhere near an Ikea. I wonder if there are others like that?

ApolloandDaphne · 23/02/2022 18:34

That looks perfect but Ikea is 60 miles away!

Ohh, my peeler is Oxo Goodgrips and I got it in Morrisons. I can look there tomorrow. That is only 2 miles away!

Not a garlic press but I use a pestle and mortar. Does a good job, easy to clean, lasts for ever and has other uses.

Love it.

SugarAndCoffee · 23/02/2022 18:36

Joseph Joseph do a good one that you can take the pressy handle out to help scrape it and dishwasher/clean it

NightmareSlashDelightful · 23/02/2022 18:37

I use a micro plane. (Like a very fine cheesegrater) You don’t get that build-up of garlicky gunk

I use one of those sort of things to grate ginger. Had not considered using that.

Sorry it's another Ikea recommendation, but this is the dog's bollocks: www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/koncis-garlic-press-stainless-steel-00089163/

DirtyDancing · 23/02/2022 18:39

I always use the small holes in my cheese grater and grate garlic. Then wash with washing up brush. So easy

Baystard · 23/02/2022 18:41

Nishan minced garlic from the world food aisle in Tesco, big jar for only £1.20 Grin

The one I have is exactly like that but without the insert. It must have been an early prototype.

I squash the garlic with the back of a spoon then chop. No holes to clean then.

ApolloandDaphne · 23/02/2022 18:42

I do fear for my lovely nails with grating such small pieces. I find ginger quite perilous at times.

Full disclosure I made off with this one in the divorce and did not buy it initially, just looked it up and it’s £50! However, if anyone wants a garlic press for Christmas then this is the bees knees royaldesign.co.uk/garlic-press-35615356?gclsrc=aw.ds&gclid=Cj0KCQiA09eQBhCxARIsAAYRiyljdardJo5YvcyueFaOz51EytcBCx8sRw9TdwB_UP8EwbcmyqG6aFQaAl9YEALw_wcB

That is a thing of beauty. Maybe I need to request this for Mother's Day? My DDs would appreciate the aesthetics of it.

Lazy garlic in a jar from Lidl is about 79p 😂
I use a garlic crusher as well, it has a removable bit like pp suggestion.
I quite like the look of those garlic presses.
My garlic lives in a garlic jar. That took an age to find.

FrenchyQ · 23/02/2022 18:46

Joseph Joseph helix garlic press

ApolloandDaphne · 23/02/2022 18:47

This one! Removes garlic skin as well, so there's no need to peel first.

I need a new garlic press. Recommend me one!
