I'll start 'distant'

@Classicblunder

Yeah, I realised it wasn't all about me. Not sure how I worked it out, maybe it was my mother telling me several times a day that she wished she had never had me. Of course, I realise now I should have been grateful
Well done for surviving. Well done everyone who survived their abusers. Not everyone did ❤️‍🩹

@SockFluffInTheBath

I wonder how your children would describe you in one word?

Just asked DD14 how she would describe me in one word and she said ‘thoughtful’. Do you approve?

That's excellent. You have done well with your child.

Thanks. Maybe it’s because I don’t let her dad hit her, or because I don’t smoke in the house even though she’s asthmatic (my house, my right), or because I don’t spend the electric money on cigarettes, or because I don’t use her to siphon money out of people, or because…

Maybe it’s because we have a normal relationship.

Strong ..... though I'm sure she didn't feel it most of the time, she raised three girls on her own in the seventies, I take my hat of to her and love her dearly.

Cunt
I'm having this one too. Some parents need/deserve extra expletives.
ifonly4 · 22/02/2022 20:07

I can't decide whether it's 'odd' or 'nightmare', or whether being odd makes her into a nightmare. Such a shame. I envy those that get on with their parents.

You do realise that life wasn't just about you growing up?
Yes we know that only too well.

I think my word is martyr.

I think most of us are capable of knowing how we feel about our mothers @Jvg33
It’s taken me a long time to get over the damage my mother caused. I never really will.
