Reasons you’re happy to be alive

The world is looking like a really dark place just now. Not sure about everyone else but I find myself spiralling into a dark place in terms of my mental health.

It feels like time to appreciate the good things in life. My children’s’ smiles, walking the dog on a sunny day, a wonderful DH.

Let’s hear your reasons for optimism even when the World feels like it’s against us ❤️

My fabulous kids. My lovely DH. My smashing siblings. My mad mum. My amazing friends. Love them all.

Thankful that I'm finally getting better after long covid and that spring is coming.

Happy that my cats 🐈 🐈‍⬛ choose to live with us and purr daily.

Thankful that I live near a beautiful park and can walk there whenever I want.

And finally , thankful that I switched off Bbc news alerts so can control how much horrible news pops onto my phone.

lucylucyapplejuicy · 22/02/2022 09:54

My beautiful children who make me laugh everyday I'm so proud of the fab little people they are.

My mum and dad. I'm very close with them although they are divorced I speak to both of them daily and I am so grateful that I grew up with loving parents.

Roof over our head and food in the fridge, house still mid renovation, so much needs to be done but so lucky we have a place to call a home.

Love this thread Smile

WarmFunKindStrong · 22/02/2022 10:52

Having a job, and a supportive partner, my kids (adultsSmile) seem to be managing (as best they can given everything that has happened to them and the economy) and they tell me they are happy with their lives, feeling well rested, my dad and swimming.

Someonemustknowtheanswer · 22/02/2022 10:54

My dog, family and house. The rest of it is pointless and I'd happily be hit by an unexpected bus or bin lorry.

Igotjelly · 22/02/2022 10:54

These a wonderful to hear/read! Nice to know there is still some positivity left in the World!

My kids, my home, my family, my dog. Good friends. My city. A job I love. Swimming.
I'm appallingly ill informed right now about the world because I've had to switch off and focus my attention on all of the above in order to be well enough to appreciate them. I have no idea what the current covid restrictions are or why Russia may invade Ukraine. I feel guilty about that but it's self preservation.

topcat2014 · 22/02/2022 11:02

On holiday with DW, DD and friend.
Am 50 now, and life is good. Not always amazing, some niggles, some bigger (an adoption that failed a couple of years ago), but appreciating what you have.

6 months ago a new job was the change I needed too.

Juststopit · 22/02/2022 11:05

Watching my now adult kids make their way in life. My beautiful home that is in a place I love. My job that I enjoy and I have great home/work balance. My dogs and my horses, my friends and they have some days out and holidays planned for this year.

MuchTooTired · 22/02/2022 11:13

My kids, DH and my family. I am lucky enough to have good health, we’ve got access to food and a whole bunch of other things. The birds are tweeting, we’re safe and this tough time will pass. DS speech is improving daily, and overhearing him chatting with his twin sister is hilarious. Spring is here, summer is just round the corner, and there’ll be picnics and exploring adventures to look forward to, swimming and bbqs, the flowers will be out and I can lie on my bench watching the leaves bustle about again.

Everything seems tough and bloody difficult in the world right now, but I have to focus on my little bubble and be grateful that we’re all alive and healthy. We’re bloody lucky compared to many.

This all sounds rather zen, I’m a stress pot in real life. But, if I focus on my bubble and how lucky I am, it’s more than manageable, I’ll just stay away from too much news!

I have a lovely home that has kept me safe in the storms! My DH is a wonderful man. My 15 month old is thriving at nursery while I work full time and…I am 11 weeks pregnant with our much wanted second child. 😍

AffIt · 22/02/2022 11:29

My OH, my cats, my nice wee cosy house, my mad but lovely and supportive family, my friends, my interesting and well-paid job and nice colleagues, my lovely community.

Discovering that you can buy 30ml tubes of Daktarin online for about half the price of 15ml tubes in Boots. My Jellycat shark toy. Grin

I saw some daffodils trying to poke their wee heads up the other day. Life finds a way.

Igotjelly · 22/02/2022 11:41

Life really does find a way 💐

It's coming up to spring and the snowdrops are in full flower; the crocuses and daffies are pushing their way up too.

Traumdeuter · 22/02/2022 11:47

Lovely family and friends, my cat, springtime, being able to run and cycle and swim outdoors and breathe the fresh air, cheese on toast for lunch.

IsItTooHotInHere · 22/02/2022 11:48

Glad that I survived Covid and a stroke last summer.

My husband of 41 years, who is always happy to see me, is always cheerful and glad to be at home.

My 2 adult sons, with whom I have a close relationship.
My GDs, who cheer me up with their entertaining stories
My lovely old cat, who loves having a cuddle.
My true friends, who have supported me.
My new social life, which enables me to get out and about and meet new people a couple of times a week.

There's a lot to be thankful for.

Igotjelly · 22/02/2022 11:50

Just sat outside in the sunshine for a coffee and watched ddog snuffling about on the lawn, lovely.

SusanSHelit · 22/02/2022 11:50

In my late teens I was suicidal.

I am glad to be alive every single day simply for the sake of being alive.

But aside from that, my dss smile, fresh hot coffee, a roof over my head and a warm bed, friends and family who love me, a job I love, and winter is almost over

Fl0w3ry · 22/02/2022 11:51

My DC. They have an optimism and enthusiasm for life that are like a light in my life.
The roof still being on our house after all the storms. It wasn’t in the best state before the storms so I almost feel proud of it that it didn’t rip off!

gracedentssketty · 22/02/2022 11:52

Hearing my young DC giggling, the smell of the sea air, devouring yummy food

Fridaysgirl17 · 22/02/2022 11:52

My family esp my 2 son's but also my immediate family who are always supportive & there for one another,a lovely community, daffodils starting to come up in the garden, coffee, online shopping this is great as a single mom it can be done easily of an evening relaxing once kids in bed 😁

squashyhat · 22/02/2022 11:54

Being retired, cat, no covid (yet), garden renovation in full swing, planning a new kitchen and holidays. Oh and DH I suppose Grin

TheCountessOfGrantham · 22/02/2022 11:57

My husband and children
My house
My car
All of my possessions that I know some people in the world can only dream of
My safety and the safety of my children. May it last all their lives.

Dillydollydingdong · 22/02/2022 11:59

Laughter. So many things make me laugh, including my nutty dp who's a Peter Pan character. He said that daddy long legs can't get up into his 2nd floor flat cos their legs aren't long enough.

My ddog makes me laugh. I was eating a biscuit this morning and she was watching me. I held out the last little bit to her and she suddenly dribbled all over my jeans and I had to change them. Made me laugh, stupid dog.
Films, music, spring flowers, sunshine.

BathTangle · 22/02/2022 12:00

Thank you for this thread Flowers.

Reminded me to think about the positives. We are all safe from the storms, DSs 1 and 2 are getting on well and entertaining each other this half term. I have a day off and am sitting in a warm kitchen with a lovely cup of Earl Grey in my hand and DDog is snoozing gently next to me. We have enough money to pay the heating bill and plan for a holiday at Easter. DH and I have secure jobs. All things that shouldn't be taken for granted and this thread has reminded me to be thankful.

ScarlettDarling · 22/02/2022 12:02

My family.
My warm and cosy house. It might only be a 3 bed semi but it’s our place of safety.
A nice coffee and a slice of something yummy!
Really long hot showers.
