For me it’s Leona Lewis’s version of Run by Snow Patrol, I love that song but hate her version of it.

@ImaginaryFriends

Valerie - Amy Winehouse can't listen to it, much prefer The Zutons

Hallelujah love K. D. Lang' version

I came on to say this. She ruined it. The Zutons was far far nicer.
Ohmnomnom · 22/02/2022 09:39

Johnny Cash ruined Hurt. I can't play the song in my head without hearing his voice.

Clawdy · 22/02/2022 09:51

Madonna's dreadful bouncy version of American Pie.

Interesting. Has anyone ever tried to do an official cover of Bohemian Rhapsody? (Apart from everyone at a some point at a party of course!)
I remember The braid's version being in the charts, I was a teenager at the time and loved it. Now, I still don't think too bad but hmmm ...

Say Hello, Wave goodbye makes no reference to homosexuality or infidelity unless you interpret it that way. The only lyric which suggests anything is at the end "to keep you secret has been hell" read into that what you will.

BluTangClan · 22/02/2022 10:13

Didn't the Muppets do quite a good version of Bohemian Rhapsody?

BluTangClan · 22/02/2022 10:18

Robbie Williams cover of "She's the one". The original by World Party seems to have been obliterated from the history books by his version.

IntermittentParps · 22/02/2022 13:09

@IsItTooHotInHere

"I will always love you", a lovely Dolly Parton song, which was covered by a screeching Whitney Houston
Christ yes. She totally misunderstood and trampled all over it.

Oh yes Grin
anormalperson · 22/02/2022 13:13

The Adele cover of 'make you feel my love'

CornishGem1975 · 22/02/2022 13:14

Lol @ @TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder That made me laugh (OUT OUT)

@HollysBush Panic at the Disco did Bohemian Rhapsody for the Suicide Squad soundtrack (I think?)

anormalperson · 22/02/2022 13:15

Also Miley Cyrus cover of 'zombie' by the cranberries . I adore her voice but the cover just felt wrong. Im from NI though so a bit invested

G4 of X Factor fame did Bohemian Rhapsody. I actually thought it was decent.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 22/02/2022 13:18

I hate those versions where different people take a line each - Perfect Day & more recently What a Wonderful World have me turning the sound off as soon as they come on.

hennaoj · 22/02/2022 13:21

Lily Allen version of Somewhere only we know. She murdered it.

ifIwerenotanandroid · 22/02/2022 13:27

I also hate it when they take something I love, e.g. Just Brothers' Sliced Tomatoes or a Motown favourite, cut it up (sometimes repeating the Motown intro over & over without it going anywhere) & stitch it back together like some Frankenstein's monster, to go behind an ad or a TV programme/trailer.

Saucery · 22/02/2022 13:33

Any cover of Eurythmics Sweet Dreams. Even Marilyn Manson’s and I love his covers of Tainted Love and You’re So Vain.

Barbara Streisand 'Jingle Bells' Grin

TrashyPanda · 22/02/2022 15:00

Ed Sheeran completely massacred West Coast of Clare by Planxty.
So awful.

DickMabutt73962 · 22/02/2022 15:04

@powershowerforanhour

The drippy version of (I'm gonna be) 500 miles in the Viagra ad. Although it's quite apt- they've made a footstomper of a song impotent.

"I've recently had the misfortune of hearing a cover of The Ship Song by some whispery wispy woman whose name I can't remember, but I looked it up at the time and apparently Nick Cave has endorsed it and said he loves it I don't quite believe it
It is DREADFUL. The original is one of my favourite ever songs."

Haven't RTFT - got as far as @IntermittentParps' post (partly quoted above) and I completely agree. I believe it's by Nell Smith - a teenage fan - and The Flaming Lips.

Ormally · 23/02/2022 13:39

This reminds me very strongly of a Greg Davies stand up piece on the ruination of 'You spin me (right round)'. If you need a laugh I recommend looking it up.

tigger1001 · 23/02/2022 13:46

@CornishGem1975

I wouldn't say ruined by any stretch of the imagination but I prefer Dolly singing I Will Always Love You rather than Whitney.
Totally agree! Love Dolly singing that but really dislike the Whitney Houston version
tigger1001 · 23/02/2022 13:49

@PotatoGoblins

Dancing in the moonlight by Toploader was murdered by Jubel a few years ago. I had an arguement with my 6yo Dd because she was adamant that Toploader copied Jubel and wasn’t having it that in fact Mummy was alive when the original version came out Hmm
Toploaders version is also a cover
BalloonSlayer · 23/02/2022 13:51

Oh so it was James Blunt who did that bloody dreadful version of Bridge over Troubled water was it? I heard it on the radio the other day and was aghast with horror. I clicked on to this thread as I was sure it would be about it!

Also agree with David Gray's Say Hello, Wave Goodbye. I had no idea it was a specifically gay song, but I always loved how bitter and nasty it is, and David Gray missed all that out!
