I need a new hoover

What would you recommend?

My Miele cat and dog cylinder Hoover has died. He was amazing. RIP.

I have mainly wooden floors with 2 bedrooms carpeted. No stairs and a couple of fluffy rugs.

I don’t think I want a chargeable cordless one.

The Henry one for pets. Harry or James or something.

ArtfulScreamer · 20/02/2022 13:13

Any reason you're not getting another Miele? I only ask as I need another hoover and I'm thinking of a Miele as the Dyson I've borrowed isn't much cop and I'm wanting a cylinder as I'm moving to a new house with a small understairs cupboard.

Chitchattypatty · 20/02/2022 13:15

I just got another Miele when my ancient one died not long ago. No regrets!

I love my Henry, with an extra turbo head for cat fur. I do wish he was better at corners though....

None at all. In fact I’m looking at Miele website just now. My current Hoover is 11 years old and it’s been great. It uses bags though.

A sebo. Really good hoover.

RosesAndHellebores · 20/02/2022 13:23

Bought a Miele in 2004. Used it until last year.

Filled out an on-line questionnaire and it recommended the Miele Cat & Dog (3000 sq feet, carpet and wooden floors). It does use bags and that was a reservation but on balance the old hoover was so reliable I couldn't argue against it. I have a rechargeable hoover (can't remember the make) for small areas between cleaner visits.

If you aren’t bothered about it being a Hoover, I can recommend the Shark - we have a cordless hair-wrap vacuum and it is amazing.

Moonface123 · 20/02/2022 13:31

Hetty is fantastic .

ohidoliketobe · 20/02/2022 13:35

We got a Shark corded lift away with anti hair wrap anout 3 years ago, and have been very impressed with it. We've had Dyson (corded) and a Henry for comparison and it's miles better than those imo.
We've got the cordless version as well which isn't as great, but does the job in the loft rooms.

Hummingbirdcake · 20/02/2022 13:35

Henry.

Campervangirl · 20/02/2022 13:51

A shark, mine is mint, no bags, you just charge the battery, its cordless, does carpets and you change the setting for hard flooring, dog hairs are no problem, got loads of attachments, fab for doing the car too

GinasGirl · 20/02/2022 13:52

We've just bought a shark after previously owning Gtechs and Dysons and it is brilliant!
It's the corded version with anti wrap technology. It's picked up so much dust and dog hair it's disgusting and satisfying in equal measure.

Daftasabroom · 20/02/2022 13:53

Miele

Hairyfriend · 20/02/2022 13:54

There is also a miele outlet shop. They have 3 degrees of 2nds, and you'd need to check the warranty. The list gets updated weekly I think:

Happydays321 · 20/02/2022 13:55

I've got a miele cat and dog, it's the best.
Bought a sebo from John Lewis, not as good.
I've used Henry's in holiday cottages for dog hair, useless, don't get the love.
Stick with the miele!

TowandaForever · 20/02/2022 13:58

I've got a Dyson dc ( 14/15?) overdrive. I get it repaired if it ever has an issue because it is so much better than modern Dysons.

SmallChange11 · 20/02/2022 14:01

When our Miele died I replaced it with a Henry and have regretted it since. I literally curse every time I use it 🤣

I'll be straight back to Miele once this one breaks.

SmallChange11 · 20/02/2022 14:02

Oh I've had Dyson in the past too. Still much prefer Miele

User48751490 · 20/02/2022 14:04

@Hummingbirdcake

Henry.
Was coming on to also recommend.
ChikaCherryCola · 20/02/2022 14:04

I love my shark (corded). It picks up well (we don't have pets but my dd moults a lot Grin), is really easy to empty and the brush is accessible and easy to clean.

DeathMetalMum · 20/02/2022 14:06

I've gone back to a bagged hoover and don't regret it. I found the bagless lost so much suction and I had to clean out the filters and get all dusty every single time I emptied it. The bag now just goes in the bin and it's good to go. Occasionally I have to clean the roller of hair but it's really easy with the hoover I have now and I don't need a set of tools. I have a sebo felix.

DotBall · 20/02/2022 14:18

We’re a Shark vacuum house after having various Miele / Dyson over 30 years. Just bought this recently (but on offer, paid £180) and it’s fab.

Shark corded stick

AgathaX · 20/02/2022 14:22

We have a Miele bagless one, after previously having the bag version. Bagless is far better, easier and the bags are quite expensive so cheaper ongoing too.

We've also recently bought a Vax Blade 4, with rechargeable batteries. It's bloody fantastic. Not such great suction as our Miele, but still pretty good, and for convenience it is amazing.
