Sky tv-price rise again! Alternatives??

Sick of sky tv increases. A couple of weeks ago I negotiated a small decrease when they put my contract price up again. Then yesterday they sent me an email about price rises in April. Plus I see they stuck a £10 admin fee on my account for recent negotiation which I done online.

DH and DS (nearly age 4) watch a few channels on the sky. I only watch Netflix really. So I'll have a battle on my hands cancelling it. And maybe I'm being unreasonable just because I don't use it.

Any suggestions for other services we could switch to?

Now TV is great, a replacement for Sky for far less money.

Ditched Sky when prices went up, phoned to cancel, dropped the cost with no argument 😳

Cancelled the package and they chased me for 12 months to come back with an even cheaper cost for the same package

Kept a log of what was actually being watched and realised Sky was not needed

Kept the Sky equipment but paid a one of fee for FreeSat.

Now watch mainly old repeats, terrestrial TV or listen to the radio but don’t miss Sky at all 👍👍

I haggle with BT every time contract is due for renewal. Get a better package for a fraction of the cost if I had not haggled.

Phoning back another day also works or contact the disconnections team, they have more options to give a better deal 👍👍

My approach is simple, I will vote with my money if I don’t get a reasonable deal

A lot of people will soon have to make hard choices and if enough people vote with their custom, money, Sky et al, will be forced to do something

If people are happy not to haggle then that is there choice and Sky will continue to take the money

Am I right in thinking though, that Now programmes cannot be recorded? I watch almost 100% programmes I have recorded. And may not watch some of them for 1 year.

@lightand it’s an on demand service so you choose what to watch when, like Netflix

a recordable freeview box is a really good.alternative, mine also has a lot of the catch up tv apps too. So long as you have an aerial then once you've bought your box it's totally free. I had to.get an aerial fitted but the cost of that and the box soon starts to save you money over a sky deal. With sky q you no longer own the equipment and they get you to send the box back at the end of your contract if you don't renew.

I am cancelling Sky at the end of my contract which unfortunately is December. I will then move over to watching occasional TV from my tablet iphone or laptop. So I will continue to pay TV licence but not Now TV or anything.

There is naff all on at the best of times to start with. 17 year old ds watches occasional tv programmes from you tube on his ps4 downstairs and my tv set upstairs will still be used for occasional terrestrial channels and dvds (showing my age here lol).

Wait times to speak to Customer Services is one hour in the evenings - we want to change our package as it’s going up to £140 per month. Are there any other ways we can get through to them? There’s no “chat box” on the website/no email address, etc

Cancel. I did and it went quiet for two weeks, half the notice period, then I started getting offers, it ended up at just under half price. I still cancelled as I had made my mind up.

Got e mails warning me I was going to lose it, then e mails restating the offer. So it ended. Then got a phone call saying if it was cost they could "do something" and I told them I wasn't interested.
