Things you never ever want to do again

Just for balance, because the thread below is making me feel a bit down…

What are you overjoyed to finally see the back of?

For me: The toddler years. Potty training. The school run and its politics. Ridiculous primary school homework for the parents.

Going further back: boring Sundays with church and bad music. Nothing to do on Sundays because nothing was open. Being bullied at school. Having to ask permission for seemingly absolutely everything.

The past wasn’t all rose tinted.

Self catering holidays. It was never a holiday.

School plays whilst politely containing my rage at the parents who refused to take their crying toddlers and babies out.

Hosting soft play birthday parties for my kids.

The toddler years

PE lessons in the 80s- designed to put you off sport whilst humiliating you.

Dating. Phew!

Get that cable car next to Mount Blanc.

Aiguille du midi ?
Why ?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/02/2022 08:49

Parasailing. Only ever did it because dds said I was such a wimp for not having a go.
Hated it.

Thank goodness I’m now old enough to give not a shit if anyone thinks I’m a wimp.

Exams. Any of them. Not because of any paralysing nerves but because of all the revising, turning the question paper over to see that all the questions are the last you’d have wanted*, and waiting for the results.
*But there was just one, oh joy, where the questions were all ones I’d have chosen.

inheritancetrack · 19/02/2022 09:00

Pregnancy. Marrying a piece of shit.

SNUG2022 · 19/02/2022 09:00

Aiguille du midi ? Why ?

I've been on many cable cars around the world, but they normally follow the line of the mountain, this is just a cable from the ground to the top with a sheer drop. Absolutely terrified me!

DropYourSword · 19/02/2022 09:07

The first 6 months of having a child with silent reflux (or possibly undiagnosed CMPA).

Nothing in my life has ever been as difficult.

LadyGAgain · 19/02/2022 09:49

Ski

Caring for a parent on long-term end of life care (15 months...starting 2 weeks into the pandemic).

I'm grateful I was able to do it for my dad, but that the thought of having to do it again for my mum...well I just can't think about it.

RampantIvy · 19/02/2022 10:03

Eat any kind of shellfish except prawns
Go on the Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride at Universal
Go Clubbing – seems like there are a few of us Grin
Have a hangover
Camping
Endure another lockdown

God, I sound boring.

CeratopsofthePharoahs · 19/02/2022 10:18

Fairground rides. Just uncomfortable nausea and neck pain.
Clubbing. Good grief it's so boring! Everyone would go on about how fun it was, but as hard as I tried I didn't get it. Now, reading this thread I'm wondering how many of the people there were actually having fun and not pretending!
Baby and toddler stage. I love my kids and I did my best to enjoy the tiny years, but boy are they exhausting. Nappies? Ugh. Sleepless nights, toddler tantrums, my youngest vomited multiple times a day for what felt like months.
Life is easier now they're generally more independent. I await the teen years with trepidation.

RampantIvy · 19/02/2022 10:31

Another one - teen years.

The stress from bullying, friendship issues, boyfriend issues, GCSEs, A levels, UCAS. I am totally baffled why any parent wants to go through this multiple times.

IMO the primary school years are the easiest.

CanIPullYouForAChat · 19/02/2022 13:04

Go to school. Having to spend 6-7 hours a day trapped in a horrible 1960s concrete block with 1000 hormonal gobshites, following stupid rules that make no sense overseen by mini Hitler teachers. I was so glad when it was all over. I was always told “these are the best days of your life” by older relatives and it made me so depressed. It wasn’t! Life got 10x better as soon as compulsory education ended.

Use fake tan. It’s time consuming, it stinks and it just makes me look grubby and stupid. Waste of time and money, never doing it again. People can either put up with me pale and pasty, or not at all.

Sit around watching someone else play video games and pretending to be interested.

Redlorryyellowlorryblue · 19/02/2022 13:33

Giving birth
Sleepless nights with small children
A baby with undiagnosed CMPA - horrendous
Going to endless boring museums as a kid
The unrealistic expectations primary school have for homework
Never having to watch in the night garden again
Clubs - after the smoking ban, they smelt like farts
High heels - nope!
Going out without a coat to save cloakroom money
Fake friends

Did you walk down the other side and ski the Vallee Blanche ? It's beautiful

mrswhiplington · 19/02/2022 16:51

Dye my hair. I am happily grey. Wish I had stopped years ago.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 19/02/2022 22:05

Work full time

Lookingoutside · 19/02/2022 22:18

‘Since when has it been rude to refuse?!’

It has been/can be dangerous to refuse. Also
It can take a long time to realise that we don’t have to do what men want or worry about their feelings.

Go bowling
Go to school
Have driving lessons
Worry about looking like hard worker or “good employee”. Give me the money and I will do the job. The end.
Live with other people.
Listen to other women play down public sexual harassment and the behaviour of some men in general.
Have dinner parties.
Live in a dirty house.

Octopus37 · 20/02/2022 09:09

Like others said, the other thread made me feel quite maudlin. I'm glad that I'll never again have to::
Do exams, especially A'Levels.
Deal with school bullies
Be answerable all the time in he way I was with my parents.
Have an eye operation
Take a driving test (I failed four times and gave up)
Go through the sleep deprivation that you go through with young kids
Give birth (first time round I had no time for pain relief, no I didn't feel heroic)
Watch my Mum die (still traumatised tbh 20 years on)
Have to sort out world book costumes etc (not on the same level though and there was always Amazon)
