Things you never ever want to do again

Just for balance, because the thread below is making me feel a bit down…

What are you overjoyed to finally see the back of?

For me: The toddler years. Potty training. The school run and its politics. Ridiculous primary school homework for the parents.

Going further back: boring Sundays with church and bad music. Nothing to do on Sundays because nothing was open. Being bullied at school. Having to ask permission for seemingly absolutely everything.

The past wasn’t all rose tinted.

Pregnancy
Periods
Wearing uncomfortable shoes.
Wearing uncomfortable underwear.
Seeing crappy inlaws

ThomasinaGallico · 18/02/2022 21:20

Oh, and soft play, and hosting birthday parties. (Luckily my two were never keen on the big teenage ones and won’t ever be into house parties as students, not here anyway). Grin

Raising small dc by myself mostly.
Giving a fuck what people think of me
The days when I'd go clubbing even though I hated going into town and preferred raves and festivals.

Games, PE, sports day and swimming at school. Glad when I left school because I knew I had said good riddance to these.

marlowe5 · 18/02/2022 21:47

Camping and being surrounded by people who enjoyed it - I just couldn't understand what the fun was.
The primary/toddler years having social nights with family friends who brought their toddlers who were awful at going to bed... and then I had to deal with them the next morning while everyone slept off their hangovers.. and I still had one too.
Sitting through primary school concerts where I couldn't see DC and had to listen to endless awful music seemingly surrounded by people who thought it was really sweet. Ditto school plays.

LunaTheCat · 18/02/2022 21:48

Years and years of hard study. Sitting exams in spring - took years before I could look at a daffodil and smile.
Don’t resent where I am now though because of those years!

Yearofthetygerburningbright · 18/02/2022 22:16

Ridiculous primary school homework for the parents

^This

And the pressure to read a certain amount every day, year round, and fill in the stupid little reading record every day. Whether it's a glorious evening for running around in the summer, the busy hobby night each week, they're half asleep, no-one feels like it, etc. Nah.

And the horror of getting to swimming on time after school and dealing with the changing rooms and cross children and trying to rebook it on the 9th week. Aargh.

And raffles (prizes for, and being pressured to take part in). And organising and paying sponsorships.

changenametimeagain · 18/02/2022 22:22

Nightclubs, shiver!

cakewitch · 18/02/2022 22:25

Surfing.. looks so easy, but was the hardest and most painful thing I've ever tried.

Diversion · 18/02/2022 22:26

Read Biff and Chip school reading books, I read them with my 3 eldest and lost the will to live when they reappeared when my youngest started school, refused and asked for something else instead. My eldest grandchild who is now 7 had them at primary school and her brother has just started reading them too. I am very much about encouraging children to read but omg they are soul destroying. With three other children who may provide me with additional grandchildren at some point I am really hoping that schools will move onto different books
