@Pennox not right at this moment in time, unfortunately - industry decimated by Covid and a lot of unemployed but qualified pilots out there. At some point though enough pilots will retire and the industry will recover, and your son is only 14. I’d keep his eyes on a couple of possible careers. (Difficult, I know with the cost of both uni and pilot training these days.) I came into flying in my mid 20s. When I was at school women pilots were not a thing - my current company did not recruit a woman till I was 14, so I had no role models really. It’s possible to get into it straight out of school or later on. I work with people who’ve had all sorts of careers first - my intake at flying school included a former hospital doctor and a former bin man. Tell him to really keep focussing on maths and physics - these will stand him in good stead for a range of careers, as well as flying. The airlines like you to be a ‘first time pass’ whatever background you come from, so get used to getting down to revision!

It’s not quite as glamorous a career as it was, or as highly paid (I have taken 2 substantial pay cuts in my career due to economic downturns, and the low cost carriers drive salaries down too) but it is still excellent fun!

Made that look easy

KUN- BRS is giving me a nervous breakdown imagine being on it!

EduCated · 18/02/2022 11:59

Looks like Hersey finally coming back around for attempt two.

EduCated · 18/02/2022 12:00

Jersey, even.

Malbecfan · 18/02/2022 12:00

BJTV back on. He does occasionally have drop-outs but the amazing tech that is Gilly will sort it. Please like the stream if you can

BabbleBee · 18/02/2022 12:01

Is it me are the BA pilots coping the best, or just more of them?

Clammyclam · 18/02/2022 12:01

That BA landing was impressive

Namechangeagain84 · 18/02/2022 12:01

Jersey is in the queue. Its seems to have been gone for ages.

Lovethesun100 · 18/02/2022 12:03

Wow !! Big Jet TV !!

MrsFezziwig · 18/02/2022 12:04

I’m close to a northern airport - hoping for a few diversions as they’ll be coming over my house. Also visualising a sort of “Come from Away” scenario where I offer my bed to a handsome stranded passenger

Popping for lunch. Have I missed anything exciting?

Can anyone pinpoint where Big Jet TV are filming from please?
Spent many a time driving down the Great South West Road trying to get right under a jet as it lands Grin

Maerchentante · 18/02/2022 12:05

At A380 from Doha coming in soon, currently over Brixton

Namechangeagain84 · 18/02/2022 12:05

@BabbleBee I wondered that.
Years ago all flights from Boston were delayed or cancelled due to wind and heavy rain. Our BA one flew out. It was bumpy but did it fine. So it does make you wonder...

Pennox · 18/02/2022 12:08

thankyou @backinthebox for the info and fascinating perspective. As a woman also in a male-dominated profession (IT) I salute you! I can only imagine what you had to put up with in the early days ...

comfortablyfrumpy · 18/02/2022 12:08
