As the other thread is filling up and things are just starting to get real. Here's the next instalment.

@Whitney168 thank you! I never thought of adding in the airline pages to this addictive madness. I am using a small phone screen - one windy day I am going to use a computer and screen!

@handslikecowstits

EXS78TG - is it diverting?
Looks that way.
ajandjjmum · 18/02/2022 17:14

So the Ryanair flight from Milan that couldn't land at Stansted is going over the Irish Sea at 30,000 - presumably to Dublin now? Seems incredible that there's nowhere on the mainland to land.

handslikecowstits · 18/02/2022 17:14

Edinburgh or Teeside airports.

handslikecowstits · 18/02/2022 17:18

EXS78TG - diverted to Newcastle.

The Mainland?? Really? Ireland is not an island off the coast of Britain.

It is not always a case of when diverting just finding a runway, any runway..

I suspect some of the smaller airports will now be full of previously diverted aircraft, and also if fuel and weather allows it might be worth considering diverting further afield to one if the airline’s main bases where there will be company assistance…

The other issue that will start to creep in is some crews will start going out of hours, so again it may make sense to a company base where there may be spare crews.

Malbecfan · 18/02/2022 17:23

@notimagain thank you. We were all a bit unsure as to why it was Geneva, given the approach is far from straightforward and it seemed quite a distance away.

ajandjjmum · 18/02/2022 17:23

@BrennieGirl I know - but there is sea between us, so it doesn't seem like the easiest option for the passengers who've travelled from Italy. I didn't mean to offend you or anyone.

I guess the crew and plane might be from Dublin. Maybe a Dublin-Milan-Stansted-Dublin shift. At least then they are in the right place as they have to relocate the passengers anyway wherever they go, and they don't have to give the staff extra time off

Just seen the poster who had a 2pm flight from Bristols plane has taken off - 25 minutes ago. Late but better late than never. Have a great holiday @TomAllenWife

Thanks @notimagain and @liveforsummer

I never thought of those points.

ShineTogether · 18/02/2022 18:02

Flew back from Europe today and landed safely in LHR around 4pm. Counting us very lucky. The wind was in a lull and landing was fine. Just delayed. Not diverted or bumped around. Catching up on the afternoon's events on this thread I'm counting blessings!

Will also raise a glass to ATC and BA pilots this evening GrinWine

Charliesgotachocolatefactory · 18/02/2022 18:15

There’s a Ryanair from Warsaw to Leeds that is now landing in…Edinburgh!

upaladderagain · 18/02/2022 18:20

Just explaining flightradar to DH when a plane passes by and he asks me what it is.
Intriguingly it's an unidentified Gulfstream arriving at Luton from Washington ...
Apologies if it's been mentioned already.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/02/2022 18:31

Just catching up... blimey, when I left I thought that stanstead flight was heading towards Scandinavia but surprised that's where it actually did go.

There's another drone up over Ukraine from Sicily

Vapeyvapevape · 18/02/2022 18:46

This has weirdly been a really enjoyable experience, I've been looking at flights on flightradar and then watching them land live , enjoyed all the chat from Jerry and the discussion on here .

liveforsummer · 18/02/2022 18:49

@ShineTogether they all seemed to be landing ok at Heathrow by then, late morning was crazy. Definitely agree ATC have earned their wages today. Can imagine them all coming off shift saying 'what a day' 😅

Don't think it's been mentioned but I can't find it . Some of the Ryanair flights don't have much info though and say no call sign. Not sure why some don't have info

Aren't things like 'unidentified Gulfstream' just private jets?

Chesneyhawkes1 · 18/02/2022 19:05

We landed first attempt at Luton! Very bumpy approach.

He said if we didn't manage it we'd be off to Newcastle. Everyone clapped when we touched down.

Then sat on the plane for 3 hours being rocked about as it was too windy to attach the steps!

liveforsummer · 18/02/2022 19:11

@Chesneyhawkes1 oh I didn't even think about that, that it wouldn't be safe to disembark even when you made the tarmac. Wonder if they were managing to offload bags through the worst of it too. Those little buggies with the added trailers

Chesneyhawkes1 · 18/02/2022 19:13

@liveforsummer there were 6 other planes ahead of us. So when we finally got off the queues were awful.

Now on the train home thankfully 😄

Yes I've seen quite a few private jets and Learjets on flight trader
