My screen was pinned on Teams. AIBU to find it creepy?

The screen share stopped and the person took ages to fuff around with the buttons. Unfortunately everybody can see that this person has pinned my screen so that it stay focused and big on the screen even though I wasn’t talking/ my initial is not one of the first alphabets.

I have no idea why I was feeling so humiliated (probably because I was stuffing my face with croissant. It was not a pretty sight I can assure you). This person has always been awkward around me but not the sort that you can cracked jokes with.

AIBU to feel a bit creep out around this person?

Maybe they found it easier to present to one face while they were talking and pinned you at random?

Or they wanted some of your croissant?

FudgeSundae · 15/02/2022 20:37

Sometimes I do this if I can’t see someone properly or the screen is freezing. Don’t read too much into it!

Annonymiss123 · 15/02/2022 20:48

Why oh why would you do this while your camera is on?

Mls1984btc · 15/02/2022 20:51

There's probably around 20 people in the Teams all with their camera on. Is not uncommon to see people snacking on the camera as long as you mute the microphone and nobody will really notice.

Was your microphone on? Was the sound of you eating putting you up at the top?

daisypond · 15/02/2022 20:52

Is this for a work meeting?

Jovanka · 15/02/2022 20:54

If you are eating, switch off your camera.

Mls1984btc · 15/02/2022 20:54

It was supposed to be an informal teaching / meeting session. Everybody is put on mute and the speaker will share the screen. I definitely wasn’t making any sounds unless the Teams can detect movement. Even then there’s other people munching as well!

I don’t know anyone who sits eating with their camera on, unless it’s some prearranged lunch thing.

Not really the point is it?

OP, sounds a bit odd but agree with a PP. He might have wanted to see a face as he presented although there are other ways to do this. Either way, it’s certainly not something you should feel bad about. I hope you enjoyed your croissant Smile

Agreed

I wouldn't eat a croissant in a face to face meeting (unless a breakfast meeting) so wouldn't do it on a Teams meeting

KateTheEighth · 15/02/2022 21:05

Do you think he was doing it because you were eating? Or is he a creep? Has he done anything like this before?

Mls1984btc · 15/02/2022 21:06

It was supposed to be an informal post lunch teaching session. People are encouraged to have snack or late lunch as long as you mute and do not talk while you are eating. It wasn’t supposed to be a interactive session too that’s why some of us are eating.

Um, well, except it wouldn’t have been possible to highlight the OP eating if, you know, she had kept her camera off.

StarsAreWishes · 15/02/2022 21:08

I agree it is odd.

I also agree that you shouldn’t eat with the camera on Hmm

I wasn’t the only person snacking. There’s others actually lunching! But like I say nobody really care is only when the screen share stopped the screen reverts back to the actual screen that everybody can see I was stuffing my face!

So the person is not a creep but was trying to show me up! Now I am annoyed

OP posts:
Tyrozet · 15/02/2022 21:10

If they were faffing about with the buttons it was probably a mistake. If they were aware of what they were doing I doubt very much they'd risk the whole team seeing it.
Why didn't you ask at the time? A quick chat message would have cleared it up.

SarahJessicaPorker · 15/02/2022 21:14

I think that's quite weird too tbh. Possibly he did it on purpose to croissant shame you, which is really, really weird. Or I don't know, maybe as a pp said, he just picked a random face to present to.

Mls1984btc · 15/02/2022 21:30

Croissant shame haha!

On the side note, It was a very buttery croissant that I got it from my local deli. So fluffy and soft. I microwaved it for 5 seconds and paired it with my hot cocoa. Yum

KateTheEighth · 15/02/2022 21:39

I think you are right to be annoyed

WonderfulYou · 15/02/2022 21:40

I would have said it was done accidentally rather than being creepy.

However if I was eating during my informal meetings they definitely would have pinned me for a laugh.

Happyharry2003 · 15/02/2022 21:40

Op I get it! Teacher meetings mostly you aren’t allowed to turn off screen as have to be ‘present’ and also absolutely fine to eat in a non interactive meeting, chances are it was your first chance to eat all day!

amusedbush · 15/02/2022 21:42

Are you sure they meant it? I teach at a university, which I’ve been doing via Zoom for 18 months now and just last week I managed to accidentally pin someone. I didn’t even know that was a thing, I clicked it by mistake and it took me a minute to realise what had happened.

themental · 15/02/2022 21:46

Surely this is just your specific work culture though and ops might be different Confused I've been in plenty of meetings where people are scoffing everything from biscuits with a cup of tea to a bacon roll or a porridge pot, and it was always just assumed the person was taking their teabreak during the meeting because they were primarily there to listen so bonus points for multitasking. 🤷🏻‍♀️

bumblingbovine49 · 15/02/2022 21:55

For goodness sake, they probably pinned you by mistake and as they were doing the presentation , they didn't have time to work out how to sort it out .

I am always astonished at how many people in life jump to assuming the absolute worst intentions in people . Unless you have reason to believe this person wanted to upset you I'd assume it was a mistake. , Surely life is less stressful if you don't immediately jump to negative conclusions with no real evidence of intentions
